Palivior

Palivior mages used to be able to twist the elements, controlling the world and altering it to their satisfaction. Flowers bloomed in their steps, animals chittered as they pass, the wind swept through their hair in greeting, and mountains trembled when they traversed them. Necromancers were haunted by shadows and ghosts screamed their woes wherever they traveled.   It is said that the destruction of the Hebetic Era, the most resplendent age in thousands of years, caused such a massive shift in the fabric of the universe that the world itself shifted from its destined path around their star; Palivior was said to have moved so much that time had cracked from its previous shell and it rent their years asunder.   This ruination unbalanced the world to the point that the rules of the universe were altered. No longer was magecraft an easy, flowing ability; it became harshly structured in order to preserve the tenuous balance the world maintained after its horrific demise. Magecraft became militarized in a desperate effort to regain power in an apocalyptic world. As such, dictatorial regimes form in earnest, forcing villages to ruin as they marched to war.   Eventually, after the world stabilized, countries sprouted from the wild lands, and sorcery became rare due to the destruction it had wrought during countless wars, mages were hounded and drafted into armies. Those that fought back were ruthlessly hunted and broken until they surrendered their powers to their governments. Hidden communities were built, secretive and secluded to protect their inhabitants. People who were gifted in magecraft that were born outside of these communities often died early, either discovered and hunted to the point of explosion in a desperate bid for freedom or their magic lashed out at them because they had no instructors.   The only way to bring unity to this fractured world and restore the Hebetic Era's prosperity and magic is to tear the status quo apart; free mages from the military, reunite the Hidden Communities with the rest of the world, and perform a magnificent act of magic to saturated the universe's depleted magic. However, this would require the ingenuity and magical prowess of the Kaolin Empire, whose fall led to the end of the Hebetic Era, which was destroyed over 700 years before...
