Scientist

You may recognize that the arcane has had its impact, but you know that the resources this world has to offer runs so much deeper than just magic. You understand that the world works under a system of rules, and you know a handful of these rules particularly well. Your enemies flee, and your allies ask you what sorcery you practice - but it's always been a result of what was already there.   From the rings in the centers of trees, to the color of precious gems. This world has reasons for everything, and you're determined to explain why. It wasn't the result of a myth or folklore, it was nature. Knowledge is power, and it's the power you've chosen to wield.   Skill Proficiencies: Perception, and choose a second proficiency from the following: History, Nature, Animal Handling, Medicine, Survival
Tool Proficiencies: Alchemist's supplies, Herbalism kit
Equipment: A textbook with knowledge on your field of study, a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 15 gp

Favored Study

Every scientist has a field they favor the most, whether it be out of necessity or plain fascination. Choose your field or roll from the table below.
d6Fields of Study
1Botany
2Physics
3Chemistry
4Geology
5Biology
6Meteorology

Feature: Deeper Understanding

You carry with you a vast fount of knowledge regarding the structure of various natural elements, even if they aren't necessarily part of your main studies. As such, you have advantage on any intelligence-based skill check that you are not currently proficient or have expertise in. You can also make accurate predictions based on your field of study - Botanists recognize the useful attributes of any plant, Physicists can determine how likely an action is to succeed, Chemists understand reactions between materials, Geologists can determine any metal or stone's composition and age, Biologists can recognize physical ailments in humanoids more easily than others, and Meteorologists can predict if a disaster is about to occur.

Suggested Characteristics

Scientists aren't focused on the metaphysical or arcane aspects of life. They want to know more about the mundane and how to use it. There are a myriad of ways to accomplish this, and the morality of their methods is entirely up to them. While they may not be the most social, or the strongest, they make up for it with their quick thinking skills and excellent observation. However, this disconnect from the majority of society may harbor resentment, fear, or even a sense of superiority.
d8Personality Trait
1Others seem to have a hard time understanding me. Maybe I'm talking too quickly for them to keep up.
2Whenever I'm presented with a tool I don't yet understand, I like to take it apart and examine its constituents.
3I have a fun fact about everything. I lose track of the ones I've already told and sometimes repeat myself.
4Sometimes I'll do something ridiculous and spontaneous, just because I want to see what will happen.
5I don't want to talk unless it's about my research. I won't be of much use for anything else, anyway.
6I have dreams of perfect ideas. If only I could remember them when I wake up.
7I am very inquisitive but I don't tend to realize if the questions I ask are too personal.
8I'm a bit of a packrat and refuse to discard anything I own. What if it turns out to be useful later?

d6Ideal
1Curiosity. The world of the mundane is filled with untapped discoveries, and I'm willing to throw myself in harm's way for it. I won't stop until I'm dead. (Chaotic)
2Progress. Technology is the future, and I'm determined to use it to change the world. (Any)
3Superiority. Nothing brings me more satisfaction than using my knowledge to dominate the feeble minded. (Evil)
4Opportunity. There ought to be a bigger market for non-magical technology. It has a lot of potential to be more than it is now. (Any)
5Accessibility. Some folks have it worse off than others, and magic tends to be a bit too lofty for most. A reliable piece of technology or knowledge could change their lives for the better. (Good)
6Posterity. It frustrates me that the laws of the world are largely undocumented. Everyone ought to be learning them. (Lawful)

d6Bond
1A fool made off with my most prized possession - a journal containing all of my life's research. I have to get it back.
2When I was growing up, this sort of knowledge didn't exist. It would have helped if it did.
3My name will go down in history as the smartest being to have ever lived.
4The research I've been doing was being used for nefarious purposes behind my back. I won't let that slide.
5No one else knows what I know. I want to change that through educating others.
6I was outcast and called a fool for pursuing my research. I'll prove them wrong.

d6Flaw
1I take criticisms of my work personally and tend to react defensively.
2Magic users scare me. I prefer to be in the company of others like myself.
3I find worshipping a god to be a ridiculous waste of time, and I will openly mock religion.
4My knowledge of the obscure gives me quite an ego.
5I care more about my research than the wellbeing of others, or myself.
6I get distracted more often than I care to admit.

This is so cool! I appreciate how you fully fleshed out the background so that it's ready for use, especially all the tables for rolling. Great work.
