Black Ribbon Mage
Qualifications
In order to become a Black Ribbon Mage, one must study any school of magic whilst in attendance at the Aradiel School of Wizardry and Sorcery. Whilst studying one must ascend through the lower ranks of the school.
Requirements
The requirements to be titled a Black Ribbon Mage are that, the recipient must have ascended through the ranks whilst in attendance of the Aradiel School of Wizardry and Sorcery. They must have studied each school of magic for at least one year, and have been studying their specialised school for at least 5 years. They must have completed a dissertation in which they explore a way to develop their school of magic, or trying to better understand the flow of magic itself in whatever way they see fit.
Whilst not a requirement the development of new Spells, Magical Items, or Magical Practices is viewed as a bonus, and cementing their proof of mastery over their chosen school.
Appointment
The appointment ceremony takes place in a rather unceremonial manner, there is no pomp or fan fair. The appointment takes place in private amongst other Black Ribbon Mages, and the upper echelons of the school, the recipients spellbook is then taken by the patron of the school, Kalidra. Kalidra then takes the spellbook, removing the ribbon that was previously attached, replacing it with a deep black silk ribbon, along the ribbon the name of the recipient embroidered in a matt material, so that it stands out against the silk. The ribbon is also enchanted slightly, the tail end of it glowing in a certain colour representative of the school of magic the recipient specialises in (Blood magic is a deep red, fire is a glowing orange, ice is a pale blue, so on).
Duties
There aren't any hard duties of the Black Ribbon Mage, only that they continue to dedicate themselves to magic. Many Black Ribbon Mages serve as advisors across Oxdara, often times returning to the region they call home.
Benefits
The benefits of a Black Ribbon Mage are mainly status and respect from their peers, and the nobility of Oxdara. Often times their council being sought after by Kings and Queens, Lords and Ladies, of which they are greatly compensated for their time and expertise. They are also given employment at the school, should they so wish, either as teacher or researchers.

This is a neat idea - I hadn't really thought about titles or duties of master spellcasters and what sort of privileges that might provide. An interesting read for sure!

I'm glad you think so! Writing this higher rank definitely got me thinking of the ranks beneath them.
