But eagle-eyed scouts assured us there was something unnatural about the treelines and they directed adventurers and knights through the dense foliage. Located on a central rock next to where two rivers join, the former capital once was home to thousands and thousands of people. Nowadays it's nothing but ruins deep within a massive forest. Nearly no place remains untouched by plantlife, even roads often are filled with bushes. Walls and towers have collapsed at many a location, making navigation a disaster.
Due to priorities in reclaiming farmlands in the valley, the capital remains uncleared and unsafe. Its buildings are all still covered in plantlife and inhabited by both prey and predators. The occasional researcher has to arrange for bodyguards to keep them safe as they venture into this wild area and investigate buildings of import.
At this point it is still unclear what caused so many buildings to collapse, as the damage doesn't seem to be solely due to roots or wildlife. Another strange aspect is that ancient runes have been found in many places. Due to plants it's not possible to assess how many there are throughout the capital.
