The investigators successfully complete the ritual and banish the Lurker.
The Lurker escapes the farmhouse and begins to terrorize the surrounding area.
The investigators have to defeat a mythos creature that is essentially invulnerable and capable of wielding a variety weapons against them.
The investigators will learn about a dark secret, learn how to perform a magic ritual to banish a creature, and discover just a few of the myriad ways that mythos creatures can challenge them.
Very little detailed investigation is required. All required core clues and information is available at a single location, which is also the location of the climax.
This is an introductory scenario designed to teach players about the systems and themes of the game.

Tension and Fear
Once the scenario begins and the investigators arrive at the restaurant, put the Mr. Steven Knott character into play. Once Mr. Knott has provided the investigators with information about the house and other locations where they may gather more information, give the players Clues C01 and C02. Then put the following locations into play: The Boston Globe, The Central Library, The Hall of Records, and The Corbitt House.
Give the players time to absorb the information, discuss matters and decide on a course of action. Some players will be keen to head straight to the house, but there is a very real possibility they will fail to successfully complete the scenario if they do so. You may suggest that they would be better off conducting some research first, or you may allow the situation to play out in the hopes that the investigators leave the house in retreat before they are all eliminated. Players whose investigators are eliminated do have the option of continuing the scenario with replacement investigators.

Since 1880, at least four families have moved out of the Corbitt House following some sort of mysterious tragedy, including violent accidents, unexplained illness, and suicide. The most recent family, the Macarios, moved out almost immediately after renting the house. (S05)
