Sir Ivan, the Lich

Living in the undead forest of Nydin behind many barriers and spells lives Ivan, the forgotten. Little is known about his early life. Born to a human and a Vampire he was ostracized from his community early on and left going to areas unknown. His return to the city was noticed only by certain scholars at the time, but soon across the nation merchants everywhere would know of the premiums the man known only as Sir Ivan would pay for books and collections of scrolls. His name soon was carried to every continent as a collector of knowledge, though none knew where he called home. Pyvros, Nyding, Kirn, Mjorn, sightings of this man were documented throughout a century before he suddenly vanished. The sightings ended, the unknown collector seemingly vanished. Over time his name was lost even to the history books as no one had ever talked with the man about anything other than his purchases, many came to suspect he was nothing but an urban legend that had managed to transcend cultures. Some adventurers attempted to track him down if for no other reason than to reclaim his treasure trove of knowledge, but many who were suspected to get close abruptly stopped their search after a time claiming to have been chasing a fable.
There had been several who had in fact met the lich and found themselves unable to strike him down. He had created a city in the forests of Nydin hidden to all those untouched by death as a safe haven for those afflicted with undeath whether by choice or not. Even paladins had issue bringing their blades to bear against him after witness the joy of his citizens and their rules to govern themselves. Allowing visitors to leave unscathed proved to be a mistake as it did not take long for the city to become known by the royal family of Nydin, however they negotiated a contract with Sir Ivan to squelch the news of his subjects as mere rumors in exchange for a flow of information from him, an agreement he happily accepted.
