The Styx
"Whatever you do, make sure you don't follow the Styx, it will lead you nowhere and you are more than likely going to end up forgetting yourself."
The Styx is the longest running river in Lanfe, it flows everywhere and every direction. It is a natural part of Lanfe though it is clearly arcane as well. It is not contiguous like other rivers, there are portions where it flows long and others where it simply pools itself. Why it is this way no one knows but everyone agrees it is all one source, where it comes from is also a mystery.
Geography
Spaces where the Styx flows are serene and calm, it is only once you step into it or draw from it that the deafening howls of souls and memories lost can be heard. It has been found flowing in many locations across Lanfe, there are gathering pools to the south, it flows upward toward the divide, it has been found flowing in The Depths, and even high in the mountains.
Ecosystem
Unlike other environments that are isolated in there own ways, the Styx's ecosystem is all of Lanfe, it feeds off the souls and memories of all the denizens. Most areas around the Styx tend to be relatively well maintained but devoid of sentient life given the danger its presence presents.
Localized Phenomena
The howls of souls and memories swirl along the flows of the Styx, clearly an arcane phenomena that has stumped many scholars still to this day. It has also be theorized that void storms cause the distribution of the Styx.
History
The Styx has been present on Lanfe since time in memorial, it is a wonder to many and though many studies have been done, only a few uses of its water has been found, but no insight has been gleamed about its purpose or how it came into being.
Tourism
Most people stay as far away from anywhere where the Styx flows. If they are following a true river that meets the Styx they immediately stop their path. Following the Styx leads you nowhere though there are some scholars that would argue there is more to it than simply siphoning souls and memories.
