Exalted

What does it mean to be at the pinnacle of greatness? To have humanoids and fiends bow at your feet? To command absolute power unseen among mortals? Exalted are the only few to possibly know, for they are Purgers without equal save for themselves.

Exalted is a title conferred to the most powerful purgers in Lanfe, it is earned by reputation alone. To hold this title is to have your name strike fear in your enemies. Exalted have done feats that some may consider godlike, but they are still mortal the only known difference is that they have dedicated their whole beings to the eradication of fiends. In order to alter the natural order one must stand tall amongst all. Fiends of all kind fear the Exalted but many more challenge their power, for if they can fell an Exalted maybe they can reach archfiend-dom.

Qualifications

The title of Exalted is one earned by reputation alone. If other Purgers agree and follow you as subordinates then the title could be granted. If a purger were to have this title and then present themselves are weak or inept in comparison to other Exalted then that would sully the title, hence why many purgers don't accept someone Exalted until another Exalted acknowledges them.

Requirements

Most Exalted have to display a wonderous feat in order for even rumors of their power to begin to bud. This title has no connection to ones lineage or birth, it simply requires one to prove themselves one of the best of the best.

Appointment

There is no formal ceremony for the conference of this title but it has become a common thing for anyone who is hailed as Exalted to be invited to meet with another and be honored by them.

Duties

Every Exalted is different in their approach but they share heavy burdens. Not only the care and protection of their caravanners but the call to action if challenged by a fiendish army are not easily ignored. Not all Exalted go around freeing encampments even though that is the mission of some Purgers.

Responsibilities

An Exalted must know the state of their RIMs and must ensure maintenance is kept up with them. They also must organize the Purgers under their control, this is mostly done by appointing advisors and generals who will handle the day-to-day task.

Benefits

The benefits of being Exalted are fortune and fame, which grant other perks whether its free board in an inn or ones pick of companionship for the night. In Lanfe these joys are fleeting for most and minimal at best, so the Exalted are looked up to as status symbols by the populace.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Being an informal title the removal of ones Exalted status would require them to do something heinous in the eyes of the people, Purgers and other Exalted. It can also be removed if one does not live up to the expections placed upon them.

Most Exalted command large armies of Purgers and have large caravans of RIMs of which every denizen is under there protection and rule. Therefore most Exalted can be seen equivalent to a king.
