Duties

The King's duty is to live and die by his oath and honor
I,[Name], swear before the Gods in the Heavens and before the Men upon Osterria;
That I shall, above all, lead with this Crown untainted by wealth or equivocation
I shall harm only those who wish harm in turn
I will give thy hand downward, only to lift up those in need
I will love as law, and my Law will be with love
I will use my sword to strike from this world darkness
and in its place, I replace it with my light
and the light of Alatria and it's Kingdom
From this day, till the day I return to my Father
I swear upon this Crown

Responsibilities

Politics

The King must head over his Government if he wishes to succeed as King, there is a delicate balance between keeping his Lords happy and keeping the Council happy. He sits at the table of Lords as head of the tables and hears their troubles, wants and wishes for the nation. Where the Lords technically do not run any part of the government, they represent a great deal of wealth, power, and respect, to loose that can meaning loosing the influence they have on the people as well as the Knight each house pledges to the Military. The King oversees the Council meetings and makes the final ruling on issues as the council dictates them to the King. He may not be able to sit on every meeting so in his stead a Lord from his regency house will sit on the council as a Chancellor and hear the happenings and report them to the King, making care not to interject on the proceeds or have any say, the Lord is merely chosen to hold a dead mans crown not make decisions or act as a King would. Once the King's word is given to the Council the spread the word to thier people in the Counties they represent.

Faith

The King's possesses the pious duty of making sure that everyone religious observance is kept in good graces. Some religions don't mesh with others but the King obligations sometimes include making an appearance on certain holy days. This can become difficult as making an appearance at one holy site means that another must be made. The religious heads are careful not o demand the King, but the King himself must keep himself centered and non-bias as any action he takes make upset the delicate balance of religious peace in his nation.

Military

The King is the top general of his own army. He is responsible for ensuring that a proportion amount of funds are issued to his army to make sure they are maintained in times of peace and properly cared for in times of war. Every soldier is important to the King so the King's duty also includes dismissing Soldiers who served until retirement, seldom seeing one at a time, he often has been seen dismissing large groups at a time. The King has the job of marshaling armies as well, when certain times cause for certain amounts of troops, the King must make sure that he brings a distribution of force that is equal to the threat. The King also holds the sacred duty of the creations and naming honorary legions, as some legions deserve to be remember in the annals of history for their actions.

Benefits

The Grand Palace of Caer Arnum as resident. A formal and profession retinue of elite soldiers. A group of groomers and waits to assist in the day to day triviality.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The Crown of Alatria. A golden crown that forms 7 jagged spikes around the top. It is inlayed with silver filigree and gems of many types in an ornamental pattern around the circumference.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

If the King has been comprimised in his Oath the Council and Lords can consult in secret to stage a Coup. At this time the Generals of the military are informed of this issues as a courtesy, but Generals swear allegience to the Crown and a Coup is taken very seriously as sometime the Lords and Council could be wrong and betrayal of the Crown is met with death. Some Generals will defend, others will do nothing, never will a General take part. It is a political maneuver and a soldiers job will not change no matter who sits on a throne.   Normally a fallen crown will go to the Son, but in these times the Council and the Lords may wage a clandestine war within to install their own power to the Crown.
