Session 4 Report

General Summary

Upon leaving Agrath, the party ventured North to their forsworn home of Hayfalls, which is still in very bad shape after most of the population left. They informed whatever locals that remained of the impending occupations from the friendly barbarians lead bu Konorath and Mollok. To little of some party member's surprise this was a complete waste of time, there was one man still running a farm of some sort there. His name was Cletus McFlapjack and he really didnt care if people were moving in. The party, low on supplies from their errant 12 day detour off from their intended path, ask Cletus for some supplies. He stated that he would be more than willing to part, but for a price as it was hard for him to make moeny anymore, since his famiyl died and it was just him and no more merchants came through town anymore. They offered him the illustrious and frankly ludicrous price of 6 gold pieces for whatever they could carry. Cletus at this point besides himself, let them know he was retring from farming now that he made enough to make it to the big city and he would pay the party 1gp to travel with them and protection.
The party agreed and set forth South ot Erengrad.
After traveling for an eventless 9 days, they rest a few hours out of the town of D'Walte. There as they were setting up camp two otehr road weary traveller approached them asking to share thier fire. The group decided it would be best if they put on all thier armor and carried thier weapons around dispite the man letting them know that he was not a threat and this was a common practice out side of Midden, they didn't need to be paranoid either as he was a Noble Knight of the Realm.
However reluctant to let their guard down, they engaged in very awkward conversation with knight and his companion. The Knight's name was Clavius Thornweaver and his charge was Tax Collector Sellus Gravius and they were headed North to Agrath to confront the Mayor of the city for back owed taxes. The parrty let them know this was a fools errand and everyone was dead, undead, or gone. Unable to accpet this as fact, the Knight insisted that he was going, while Sellus, uncertain feigned sleep.
The next morning they awoke to find the Knight and his Charge missing as well as Cletus, who had said thier goodbyes quietly to Damien, who was on last watch, and made thier way South. Confused by this move Damien began to questions the interactions they were having last night, the probing questions about their identities, which the party was certain to have never giving up, considering they did in fact murder a Governor of the Realm. Hitsuki found the relic was misses as well as the journal and clues from the father's estate. They began to rush to the horses and drove them hard south entering a town where the questions people to the whereabouts of the Knight and his two companions. A locale that was paid off to give them wronjg information did just that, and in the town there the path split three ways, they went to the eastern most road.
Along this road was a steel cablke that had been very tightly and cleverly taught across the road, Praist, and expert in making things do things they arent supposed, slide his horse under the cable and was a few hundred feet ahead of the party. Out of the mist came the Knight who glanced a blow to the back of Praist head, slapping him with the wide side of his massive greatsword. The Knight, riding back seeing that all had followed, charge further East, not to soon after getting hit with a shot from Damien's bow and with Praist in hot pursuit.
Praist used his Mastery of Thaumaturgy to create a loud clap near the horse, which flung its rider off, the Knight hir the ground running and turned and landing a massive blow to the horse chest region flipping it over breaking its front legs and sending Praist flying to the ground.
The knight gave Praist a chance to surrender, which was declined and the two were struck into Mortal combat, knowing that one would have to die.
By the divine light of Pelor, it would not be Praist that day, who landed a massive blow to the top of the knight's helmet crushing his skull and leaving him a crumpled body. On his person was their stolen effects.
The party then ventured to the south and eventually reached Erengrad who's gates were closed to travelers as there was a lockdown due to a threat to the Governor. The party knew it was them, but they needed to reach the inside of the city to fins the vampire. They eventually gave up and decided to rest at a tavern called the Trite Maid. There they met Thargil, a man of many hats. He wagered that if they stole something for him, he would provide a way into the city. The party agreed and after retiring to their rooms, Thargil let them in on the "plan". He wanted them to sneak into a Military base in the south harbor and steal a ship and sail it a few miles into the city harbor, there they would pass the ship off to his men and they will be in the city. The group reluctantly agreed and entered slept through the night.
The next day they found the base and argued loudly outside within ear shot of the guards about how they were going to steal a ship. The gaurds figured this was clearly a threat, told them to leave and increased patrols. The party decided it was too hard of a job and they would have to find another way. They traveled around until the happened across the eastern gate where it turned out the lockdown had lifted and they could;d just enter the city as they will.
Once inside they decided to search rich neighborhoods for evidence of a vampire where the happened across a dapper dressed Cletus who was happy to see them. Scared of how threatening they looked he invited them into his new home that he just bought with money that he earned in a very lucrative short term investment. He wagered that he could also make them money by helping them invest in Hayfalls as he was buying the lands around Hayfalls. Hoth and Damien bought into it hoping to return their investment tenfold.
Cletus told them that he would keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. The party was suspicous of Cletus but let it lie for a while. Hitsuki and Affyria decide to go dress shopiing and found a colthier that was selling nice dresses and shopped there. The shop owner was very rude and Affyris decided to break in at night and steal back her money plus interest from the shopkeep only to find a requisition order for black vestments to be sent to Cletus's house by order of Governor Arin. They cycled back to the house only to find there was a party happening, numerous mercenaries from the company Cletus invested in where living it up inside with the Vampire lord himself. They scoped the place out and decided to wait for the party to die down which it did. They snuck in to find the mercenaries drugged up and some being drained of blood and none of the women at the party around. They killed the help and found the Vampire Lord upstairs in bed with 6 woman, having adult times. Hitsuki turned into a bug, crawled onto the ceiling and then changed over the Vampire lord staking him with her stave. Paralyzed the rest of the party (Damien and Hitsuki) entered the room and saw that all women were about to be turned. They consulted Praist who mentioned the cure for Vampirism was a stake to the heart and direct sunlight. Meaning they would need to die. So the party killed every last one of them and they took the Vampire Lord outside to see the sunrise in front of all the neighbors.
Cletus was chained and torture upstairs and told them that he would take care of the legalities of the situation and they should leave because they looked like murderers and the party did just that. They left into the early hours of the morning to search for passage to Ornicia, where they could then ride to Bilganthur, where the third piece of the relic lied.

Character(s) interacted with

The following contains some insight that the party did not recieve in game, but would be available to them provided they asked broad open questions.

Knight, Sir Clavius of House Throneweaver - A sworn protector of the realm and a heir to the House of Thornweaver. He takes his jobs and charges seriously. He is a student of history and politics as well as war and loves to keep up with the current events where ever he travels. His last mission was a secret, but it involved taking Sellus Gravius, the Tax Collector, North along the Granach Road. He was killed in combat attempting to ambush the PCs in an attempt to let Sellus and their Cletus escape.
Sellus Gravius - A tax collector sent North to collect from Agrath and it's mayor Arin. They encountered the party who informed them that everything in Agrath was dead. Sellus curious of the traveller's coming and goings and how they would happen by such information searched thier belongings in thier sleep and discovered they were the Sons and Daughters and Alfric Breman, the killers of Governor Tarik Malor. Assuming they killed the Mayor Arin and made up a preposterous story about him being a Vampire, he urged Clavius to kill them, being a man of honor, he did not. They left with Cletus assuming they were saving him, the but the simple fool assumed he was just getting a free ride. The more money the better. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
Cletus McFlapjack- A hayfalls local with dreams of the big city. Group agreed to take him to Hayfalls and paid him 6 gold for all the stores and wares he had in his house. Upon arriving to Erengrad he met a few business men who were creating a mercenary company, now named the Midden Marauders. He invested his 6 gold and lucky enough they completed thier first big job later that day entitling him to roughly about 6,000 GP. He then turn to they party willing to take money from them and invest it into Hayfalls building it into a bigger town, with the profits of such venture being split 40-60. Only Hoth and Damien chose to listen to the man with the rest of the party assuming it was a scam. It wasn't, after his run into with the Vampire Lord and smoothing out the issue with the local authority, he took what was left of his mercenary company and went to Hayfalls to start building the town. It's projected to be very profitable.
Thargil - The mysterious thief leader of the Trite Maid. He offered the PCs a way into the walls of Erengrad, but the PCs decide it was not worth the risk and by the time they made their decision, the lockdown was lifted anyways. No further was heard from Thargil, though he may not like the PCs turning their back on someone who offered such service and greetings. He also has some serious blackmail ammunition against the Party as he knows they killed Sir Clavius Throneweaver and they are the children of Bright Barrow.

DM's Notes

A sleepy session which I do not fault you for. Great roleplaying from the group. You all did a great jobs and keeping to your characters knowledge and style. There are a few things that need to be considered though, I will not give all these away but what I will say is you are probably the most wanted people in the land. There is not really a bounty on your head, but you have technically killed one Governor and "made an attempt" on a Mayor. Once you are out of Midden it may not be wise to broadcast anything that would associate you to the House Breman, granted you did not have a choice this time. The night was suspicious of you the moment you began to get defensive around a Knight of the Realm who view themselves as the noblest of peace keepers and protectors. Upon learning the identity of enemies of the crown, it was his duty to save the innocents and bring you in dead or alive. That being said you have the intentions to go the military capital of Alatria, Ornicia to then go to Bilganthur. I would not recommend this actions, and neither should the groups common sense, its not the only location that has a port, there will be small ports along the coast that aren't necessarily on the map. Perhaps you should consult the people that spent 4 years hear to figure out what they know.
There might be a way to clear your name. But that is a quest and a tale for another time. For now we focus on getting that relic and uncovering the sercets of your father shrouded in mystery.
