Erengrad Settlement in Osterria | World Anvil

Erengrad

The bustling port city of Erengrad is the largest city in Midden. It serves as the main sea export for good from Midden to all over the world and including further south in the Kingdom in Alatria. It once served as Fort for Alatrion soliders during times when Midden was being expanded into long before the annexation by King Carrathor. When it was abandoned the Farm Baron's moved in and took it over making it the defunct capital of Midden.
Currently it has been reclaimed by the Alatrion Kingdom and a King elected Governor resides at it's head.
"They call this place the door to the North. It's a door alright, unlocked, wide open and letting all the filth in." -Tavernkeeper of The Trite Maid

A lot of these people come poor and from small farming villages with no experience or knowledge, some seldom get work and revert to living in the slums to the southwest of the city where they man end up in a gang or roaming the streets begging for coin and work.

Infrastructure

The city is well built, wide fairways grid the city with smaller cobbled roads spidering out to create avenues and alleys. The Castle lies in the western half of the city near the Granach River and from its Eastern side extends a wall to the north and south that encompass the inner wards of the city. the southeastern part of the city is its harbor, which serves as one of the busiest sections of the city.

There are many guilds within the walls of Erengrad, but there are three that the town is known for.
  1. The Shipwrights of Erengrad: These are some of the best ship builder in the world. They build the fleet for the King's Navy and as well as other wealthy individuals. They personally own 3 whole marinas in the dockworkks.
  2. The Hall of House Nurem: This seems like a profitable bankers guild, but there is nasty rumors that they are associated with the Saliknor Crime Family, known human traffickers and assassins.[\li]
  3. The Barrow Makers: A guild of morticians who run a profitable and successful death care business for most of Midden. They care for dead and ensure that disease and death do not spread as well as the religious needs of the families goodbyes are met.[\li]

History

Was founded by tribes of men who used the coastal waters ro fish long before the age of unification. It was the site of the first landing of King Tralik in 233 AU when he used his new fleet to expand North in search of fame and wealth, it was used as a base of these operations for many years. The tribes of Midden would have eventually beat them back take the then fort for themselves.
The Castle was requisitioned from the Midden Council in 298 AU and completed in 320 AU, where the council of Midden moved to as they ruled the Commonwealth.
The port naturally expanded and the coast line as remained mostly the same since the old times, with some feats of engineering building the inner canal, or Stone Riverway. The port has been actively importing and exporting for many years. When Midden was annexed and the castle became home to a Governor, the operations of the port didn't cease, but instead increased tenfold.
