The Canticles of Light
Iskandar is the source of many divine forms of magic. The power to cure, to mend and give restoration are gifts that were bestowed upon the questing knights who faced the Primal Evil. A power that was granted not as laurel or ornament for their effort but as song and hymn to glow within their hearts and spur them on in face of horror and destruction.
These songs and hymns became the major works of the Canticles of Light. Mortals added their own divine songs that told the history of Iskandar and was passed down among the priesthoods that have accompanied the Iskar Astartes since Ellemex founded the pillars of the Knighthood. The Canticles of Light are both an oral history of the Dawn Realm and a spellbook unlike any other. Where the sorcerers of Dalair learned to weave the winds of magic by force of will, The Canticles of Light allow its clerics to sooth the winds of magic and request its power, making the priesthood of Iskandar capable of feats such as true resurrection that not even the greatest mages of the Magisterium can boast.
The Canticles of Light have also sewn the people of Iskandar together. It is a binding part of their culture. The Canticles are sung during feast days and celebrations. The hymns echo in the temple chambers during days of worship. In the heat of battle the Canticles of Light offer courage to soldiers and knights and when they fall it is the Canticles that they hear as their wounds are tended or their spirits enjoy as their bones are laid into the earth.
