Fallcrest
Fallcrest is the site of the final battle between the Knights of Elysium and the Primal Evil that ruled old Iskandar. During that battle countless were slain and the knights suffered a grave betrayal from one among their own ranks that almost ended in the bitterest of defeats and the forfeit of their quest. It is said that Castle Umbra was built upon the ruins of the Primal Evil's domain and rumored still to be part of an integral seal that finalized its defeat.
The nature of the Primal Evil that the Knights of Elysium faced has never been recorded, either in the Iskar Astartes or the Canticles of Light. It is speculated that its name and description would sow temptations through the ages were it known and indeed many sorcerers, cultists and diabolists have journeyed to Fallcrest in search of answers and communion with infernal powers. Due to its admission from history many believe the curse that lies over the land is due to its remains which are assumed to be buried here, others hypothesize that it is the very fact that it has been forgotten and thus the resonance surrounding its ambiguous nature has swelled the land with fear and evil. Whatever the cause, Fallcrest is indeed a tainted and cursed territory. It is the home of terrifying monsters, and attracts devilish intent.
During the battle with the Primal Evil one of the Elysium Knights fell from her grace and betrayed her own, nearly upsetting the course of history and damning her allies. She fell prey to the schemes of a clever devil disguised as a Solar of her faith and her fall from the light now serves as a warning to the Iskar Astartes. Those knights who abandon their oaths and their grace are given the choice to join the Knights of Umbra whom serve in her memory. The Knights of Umbra are tasked with the most dangerous quests that befall the Iskar Astartes and often die in their attempts to regain their honor. It is they who guard Castle Requia and who patrol the woodlands of Fallcrest, seeking out evil and smiting it where it fosters, or perishing alone and afraid among the tangled briar and twisting trees.
