The 2345 Presidential Election was a major election within
The Federated States . It was the third full election.
Background
The Federated States had now been in existence for 13 years and had avoided the big threat of war with the Karkouri Regime, first by signing an alliance with the Tazzyn Empire and then a new one with the Tranoan Empire.
The Federated States had been run by Federalist administrations since its inception and had gradually expanded the power and reach of the Executive Branch and the President. They codified laws and formerly recognized the constitution of the Federated States.
Candidates
The Federalist Party initially looked like it would be behind Vice President Soren Ocampo The Vice President looked set to seek the nomination. However due to a combination of weak polls and a lack of fund-raisng saw the Federalist Party leadership balk and instead nominate former Secretary of State Roderick Strickland. He chose Ocampo ally Governor Lee Capotelli as his running mate.
The AIS, facing a crisis of confidence after two successive defeats where they were expected to win, saw centrist Governor @cam from New Berlin win their nomination at the convention. He chose retired Marine colonel Ebbert Keever as his running mate.
The Universal Party also quickly nominated former prisoner of the Karkouri Deputy Wick Sandersen as their nominee. However the Universal Party shocked the political establishment by agreeing to back the AIS nominee.
The Wellfield Alliance announced that billionaire arms dealer Dustin Attencort would be their nominee. The bellicose businessman chose veteran Senator Jessica Nairn as his running mate. His campaign drew huge amounts of fund-raising, briefly seeing them peak at 1st in the polling.
The TPE nominated veteran Deputy Jaden Swofford as their nominee. However the party agreed to back the AIS, as per the previous arrangements.
The Progressive Union backed former military officer and Governor of Stark Hale Herrick as their nominee. He also agreed to back the Federalist's.
The First Ballot
Going into the election, the AIS polled ahead of Attencort, with Strickland lagging behind. Huge amounts of money are invested into the campaign and the fear of a coming war were one of the main themes of the election.
However when the polls closed, the AIS won a shock 51% of the vote, meaning there would be no need for a second ballot and seeing the AIS win their first ever Presidential election,

Strickland / Cappotelli - Federalists -24%
Attencort / Nairn - Wellfield Alliance - 24%
The New Administration
Taking office in June of 2345, Governor Cameron Vessey was sworn in as President of the Federated States alongside his new VP Ebbert Keever.
Former advertising exec and highly rated campaign manager Marley Howard as Chief of Staff
Senator Bors Moatt is named as Prime Minister.
