Güllin Raiders

Most of the survivors of the Brightening fled underground or into thick, dark forests. Those from the Fadrigül Badlands could not easily do either one. The destruction in the area was so immense and sudden that there was little time to prepare. As a result, the people of the Fadrigül region, commonly called Güllins, turned from a rustic yet peaceful existence to a life of thievery and looting as a means of survival.   The Güllin tend to have a sunburned complexion due to their frequent contact with the sun's power. The do not, however see it as a boon. Rather, it is a constant threat that they feel unable to escape from, as they have been "burned" with sun energy. Underdwellers and the forest peoples alike will not accept them into their communities, believing them to bring the sun's evil with them. More ordered settlements among the Brights see them as an uncontrollable element and akin to the chaotic sunbeasts.   As a result, Güllin people exist in bands and pray on traders, nearby Bright towns, on warrens, and on each other. Attempts to unify them have usually ended in bloodshed as other bands try to stop them from becoming too powerful. In a way, they are a more barbaric echo of the Crimson Wars.  They are a tortured, grim people who live side by side with violence.   Some of the more powerful among them decided that if the world will treat them as outcasts and agents of chaos, then they may as well prove them right. Some Güllins have taught themselves how to work with the sunbeasts. Whether they are possessed by the beasts, control them, or have achieved some sort of symbiosis has been the conjecture of scholars. Many of these "beast masters" live a solitary existence because the rest of the world are terrified of them. Many call them demons, sent to command the beasts in the final destruction of the world.
