What is Runic Magic?

Runic magic is an ancient art form that is innate, not learned, that allows a wielder to access dormant magic held inside small gem-like structures. The color and shape of such an object varies greatly based on their effects, and the art form for such craft has been lost through developmental age. Those who are able to access such magic are considered rare and far between, often viewed lesser in the eyes of other types of magic users. Yet, their powers should not be underestimated, as the innate powers have been shown to match even the best magic user. What is most important about this style is that anyone can access a basic rune power, but as mentioned, the talent must already be there to truly access the rest. For those who can have often described the experience as a strong, unbreakable bond between the rune and the wielder, as the power transfers between them to manifest into the world.
This type of magic is most commonly found in more developed societies with an emphasizes on craft and exploration. It is said that the dwarves relied heavily on it for their fires; the runes mined from their own caves. Some humans have adopted this style, yet it was the dragons who became truly interested in it for the value. There has not been many tribal bestial creatures, as their longevity and access has been quite minimum. Though, an object of this power can be the perfect tool for the organization needed.

Runic Courrption

Unlike what some would like to believe, Runic Corruption is exposed to the continuous growth of magical corruption. In some ways, this can become more detrimental, as the runes become a mobile carrier for the effects. Some rumors have formed on this behalf, detailing horror stories of shipments falling south as the runes allow dimensional access to the other planes. Though, a clever and cunning Runic Master may be able to use this to their advantage, allowing them to travel safely through the realms.
