Chapter Four: Crystalmir Lake

General Summary

Right before the group arrived at the Crystalmir Lake, they encountered a section of caverns filled with old, broken wells that the dwarves built to harvest fresh water. Occupying the area were passive centipedes that are passive unless provoke, and they seem to like smaller creatures. The well had strange sparkling water that looked thick and sparkling, almost like stars were growing within side it. As the group looked it over, they decided it would be better to continue on to the lake. When they arrive at the Crystalmir Lake, Vhiz informs them of the natural critters: Snakes, large plant creatures, and the sorts. Fortunately for them, the area was lit by growing fungus that seemed to reflect light from the water's surface. This same fungus would be capable of lighting a greater torch than normal. As the group began fishing, they spotted the same sparkling water in the pool, which they learned to be a corrupted magic source to another dimension. They learned this by Yiska losing his sword to it, and Rein attempting to make contact to bring back the source for his commander. What becomes concerning is that the pool of water will continue spreading like a disease, consuming the whole lake in the matter of months to be one gaping dimensional portal to the Astral dimension. There are no final answers about how this will look, or if there's even a way to stop it, except that this same type of report has been made across the world. With that knowledge, the group has decided to rest before heading to the surface, where they will follow Rein back to his home. Grott continues to bicker with the group. Yet, he has an appreciation for Vhiz's attempts to bring them to safety. This is followed by Vhiz's lack of desire to get involved with Rein's rebellion against the gryphon empire, a shared feeling with Remos. Still, Rein is determined to show them that his commander is great and wonderful. And maybe they will find their goal on the surface.
