Elif Species in Orcerta | World Anvil

Elif

Basic Information

Anatomy

Overall Elif are defined by their slighty oval body equipped with a pair of huge wings.
Their neck is slightly elongated but retractable, it ends in a head similar to a falcon.
Their beaks are short and rounded but strong, they can easily crack nuts and open carcasses.

Naturally Elif are able to use Power Signum which enables them to lighten themselves and the load they are carrying.
The breeding methods of the Kinini produces Elif with different affinities while never losing their inherent ability to lighten themselves and their packages.

  • Fire - Red plumage
    • A higher body temperature enables them to easily traverse colder regions without problems. They have a higher need for food.
  • Water - Blue plumage
    • A lower body temperature and a lessened need for water makes them perfect to traverse warmer areas, like deserts, of Orcerta. Easily freeze when in colder areas.
  • Nature - Green plumage
    • Hearty and sturdy, these Elif seldomly fall ill and can eat almost anything. They are slower than other Elifs.
  • Electric - Yellow plumage
    • Highly sensitive to weather. They have troubles traversing areas with high concentrations of electro Signum.
  • Power - Grey plumage
    • The normal variant of Elifs. Bred by Kinini even better at lightening themself and their load.
  • Mind - Cyan plumage
    • They are said to predict the best route, even if it seems longer. Highly distrustful of other people than their owner.
  • Body - Brown plumage
    • Easily adapt their body to different types of ground and transform their wings to get the best flight results. Most often slightly smaller than other breeds.
  • Emotion - Orange plumage
    • Sensitive to the emotions of other people and as such easily en- but also discouraged, they are easy to train.
  • Dream - Pink plumage
    • Said to be the "Security" variant because they shut down any attempt to steal their load with Dream Signum
  • Soul - Purple plumage
    • Build a strong bond with their owner and selected few individuals. They can hardly be sold but make for great pets for they learn everything their owner tries to teach them very fast.
Editors note: There are more morphological distinctions per breed, these will follow!

Genetics and Reproduction

Elif mate and lay their eggs in the first quarter of the year and have a gestation period of roughly 40days.
The parents care roughly 2 month for their fledglings, sharing the food reprocurement between each other - after that periods fledglings are expected to be able to fly and live on their own.
Fledglings who are not able to fly in that time frame are usually cannibalized.

Growth Rate & Stages

Elif hatch without feathers and develop their first set of feathers, called a "prim", at the age of around one year.
The Prim is highly sought after for this set of feathers is of a very soft and fluffy texture. As such, it is wanted for high quality pillows and blankets.

At around two years the Elif have their first full plumage and cycle through it roughly once a year.

Male specimen reach sexual maturity at around 2 years while female specimen reach it at around 3 years.

At around 3 years all Elif are fully grown.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Elif are omnivores but mainly eat meat to sustain their large stature.
They supplement their diet with a wide variety of nuts, insects and fruit.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Similar to Aurim, Elif are used as pack animals.
They are called "Aurim of the sky" for a reason, while they are not as strong, their ability to fly makes for a way faster transportation time.

Average Intelligence

Elif are quite smart and are adept at solving problems their own. They can even be entrusted with simple commands.
These commands can only be given by a select few people because they tend to bond strongly with their owner(s), for that reason most Elifs are sold at a rather young age.
Rebonding an Elif can take years, while it is not uncommon for them to make "friends" with other people than their owners, they suffer greatly if they are seperated for a great period of time.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Sensory perception depends on how they are bred, normally Elif are bad at flying at night.
Red, White and Cyan Elif bred by the Kinini however have different ways of flying through the night.
