Solavore

Solavores - also sometimes known more in layman's terms as, Trans-dimensional ryclin Bounty Hunters - have their job resting in the reputation of the ryclin species' unusual diets + intelligence. The name comes from the idea of them being above the regular classification of carnivore, and being one that moves from different star system (solar) or universe to consume others, but not taken literally as a star-eater. Though across other places, occasionally the name does get mistranslated as star-eater or sky-devourer, etc. The first job was said to have started long ago, when a being that fell into a more primal OA promised the ryclin food if it went back through the other side, and ate the assigned target. From then on it got refined more into an intelligent system that was excused for people to get contracts to go afar, and devour prey that was either causing some annoyance, intruded from another system, or just because somebody wanted another to disappear via a ryclin's hyper-metabolizing stomach.   The reputation is highly controversial for some obvious reasons. Ryclin were allegedly doing this a little while before much serious Vahamin contact was established. It was already a habit for some past the development, but it made them docile enough with strangers (since Solavores learned they must communicate with outsiders first to get sometimes better jobs or prey elsewhere) that the two could even establish a relationship, so merits were weighed around. Internally, their society more often praises Solavores as explorers of courage, and as great hunters that go beyond the mundane risks of getting their food. Yet Vahamins more often are disappointed or disgusted with the concept, only praising the idea for the occasional good it brings in communities where the prey is a nuisance or antagonistic being. Outside of the OA where the Solavore travels, the scheme is most often illegal, either by some form of outer-travel legality, tariff concerns, and of course potential murder or poaching. Attempts for the OA to overhaul this practice on their end never endures in the legal council, with a vast number of ryclins opposing such jurisdiction, but occasionally the discussion is branded as 'illegal' and taboo to speak of openly in some environments so that peaceful relations can sometimes flow to outsider communication, or the practice leverages as a false 'we stopped this for you' kind of dealing.

Career

Qualifications

Must be a healthy Ryclin, and have no serious history with disorders such as Portal Dementia. Entry costs include the need for a ship, and such safe equipment as the basic Solavore suit. The more one has to invest in health, protection, and travel components, the better. From there, its just a matter of having connections to apply to clients and get missions started. While the OA is mostly a shared system of governing, its multi-universal status does tend to also effect missions and asking clients from foreign regions, and choosing where to live may impact the career options of any aspiring Solavore.

Payment & Reimbursement

The payment varies widely by the client, and job. Often hunting sentient life is more of a larger pay, whereas wilderness or poaching pays less in direct fees. However a part of the payment is haggled around the prospect of the ryclin's pleasure and value in consuming the target. Sometimes the client is aware of this, and tries to talk out of paying as much in finances for the act of 'feeding' them instead, but most Solavores dispute this idea and ask for a more straight forward body-price of the target. As these terms may be negotiable, some solavores even set payment up by target weight, status, or numerus other systemized measures, but these systems can fall apart under misunderstandings from alien currencies. If the client isn't paying in straight SAWC, the ryclin may need to convert that with a bank associate, or spend it directly back into the system they were just in for hunting.

Perception

Demographics

This job is only applicable to a Ryclin, however they are sometimes compared to a Lunaki poacher in their methods. Other races may wish to simply be more ordinary formats of a bounty hunter, though ryclins have most of that job locked off in the OA sector for simply being both physically efficient, and having a means to leave no trace.

Operations

Tools

  • Solavore Suit
  • Nova Staff
  • Thermal Magnum Blaster
  • A Warp-capable Ship of a preferably small size.
  • Flesh Welder (Optional, but highly recommended)
  •   Other tools may be used, but these are the few considered to be essentials.

    Dangers & Hazards

The job is among one of the more dangerous a ryclin can take, and often it is thought most ryclins will live to a full age unless they endanger themselves in a career similar to this one. As the omni-verse is huge and unpredictable aside from special locations, the risks range from simple hostiles with weapons, to physics and technology that can't be comprehended appropriately, or unforseen dangers of the local hunting ground system.    Often the danger even comes in the very end, or systems that understand what the Solavore practices are from over-done use. When the ryclin gets its target, and eats it, there is potential the target has a trick to escape while still alive, sometimes killing the ryclin from the inside. The ryclin also tends to just become more vulnerable on a fuller stomach, where their mobility is somewhat staggered in an unpredictable world.
