The Forgotten Ones - also known as the
Praetari by the
numari - are the cursed souls of the first mortals who were cast into the
Ocasus for their pride.
The Forgotten are powerful demons who seek to cause strife amongst mortals. They exert their influence by manifesting as night terrors and sending their
Cursed Thralls to terrorize mortal lands. Some say that the Forgotten act in revenge against the gods for their exile, others believe it is their way of ensuring that they are remembered.
Cirrene theologians believe that the Ocasus is the gods' way of judging the true worthiness of mortals - for if enough souls are deemed unworthy by
Nycis, Orbis will inevitably become engulfed and destroyed by Demonic Thralls.
Blinded by Pride
The first mortals created by Oneir and Kaiora were powerful beings. As the Creators wanted to test their powers of creation, the first mortals were gifted the magic of the gods. However, it was not long before the first mortals grew too proud, believing that if they were able to wield the powers of the gods, they must be equals to them.
Oneir foresaw the destructive imbalance of power that the first mortals would cause if left unchecked. He formed the
Ocasus and exiled the first mortals there to contain them and their blind ambition. They are called "the Forgotten" in reference to their being forgotten by the divine pantheon.
Cursed Thralls
The
lands of Cirra are under constant threat of the
Cursed Thralls of the Forgotten Ones.
Thralls are what remain of the mortal souls judged unworthy by
Nycis upon death. The darkness of the Ocasus and the Forgotten corrupt these souls until they devolve into nearly mindless monsters that only seek to destroy the living or follow the bidding of their Forgotten masters. Thralls take many forms but are often seen as grotesque and terrifying creatures.
In Cirra, to "curse" someone is to wish this terrible fate upon them. Cirrene cultures typically have some sort of ritual performed upon the dead in hopes of preventing their souls being turned into Thralls.
Cult Worship
There are some groups who have taken to worshipping the Forgotten Ones who have appeared to them through dreams, enticed by the dark powers promised to them.
