The Great Batch - Advent Children

Twenty carrier women finally give birth to their enhanced progeny. After the first five exhausting procedures,Ar Eron, the exhauted Master-Breeder deems it safer to rely on the Director to finish without incident. He and Snafa the Swift discuss as they approach the Director's office. Snafa talks about the Batch, about Eron's child, and the current campaign going on at the Cleaving Hills. Eron tries to remain composed but Snafa's attitude disippates his façade. Eron is worried. On top of the Blue Citadel, Ar Akoth and his assistants are busy preparing for the returning parents sejourn in Fur Dessath. Ar Eron offers him to escape the paperwork and get his hands in the game, literally, and help the birthing below. As a professionnal healer, and a terrible scribe, Ar Akoth concurs and goes to end the birthing process in person. Leaving Eron to relax and sign stuff. Below the Citadel, the staff rally under the former General's supervision. The children are born one after another like products from a well-oiled factory. But one of the children, number sixteen, is anomalously unresponsive. Ar Akoth and the staff try to reanimate this precious specimen, and succeed after strenuous attempts. The rest of the batch is born soon after without further incidents. Ar Akoth, exhausted as well from the 36 hours of work, takes a nap in the corridor.

Structure

Exposition

The Blue Citadel: Purpose of enhanced Demon production and large scale maternity ward. Location on map revealed. Geography revealed. Infrastructure revealed.   Characters: Ar Eron : Calm type. Snafa : Hot-blooded rude type. Ar Akoth : Tired, driven type. Walla : Honest, refined type.   Plot : The Great Batch, purpose and cost revealed.

Conflict

Pressure points: exhausting process of birthing, new procedures never before put in place, years of preparation have everyone on edge.   Conflict: Unexpected complications challenge character's adaptativity and leadership. Ar Akoth struggles to find explanations and tries to act per protocol. Walla proposes unprecedented revival procedure.

Climax

The sixteenth Demon is born, at last. Not crying, but alive.

Resolution

The entire staff collapses from relief before remembering their job isn't over yet. Casualties at this point were unthinkable, and they musn't keep their guard down. Return to initial situation, and ending with Ar Akoth slumbering.
