Straightsuit

A straightsuit is a vacuum protective suit that doesn't grant any mobility to its wearer. Straightsuits are usually used for transporting non-ambulatory medical patients and uncooperative prisoners. Straightsuits allow prisoners and patients to be transported through a vacuum while taking up as little space as possible. A straightsuit will usually have external handles, a two way intercom, and a face visor. Diagnostic systems help to monitor the health of the patient or prisoner and the remaining air supply. External oxygen tanks can be replenished for longer journeys. Some also have built in propellant systems similar to EVA Packs.   The child carrier pod made to carry Olivia Allard to Chang’e City may have been the first example of a Straightsuit, as it allowed her to be moved across he surface of the moon in a small package that didn't give her any ability to control her own movement.   Some Special Operations units carry lightweight straightsuits that can be unfolded and wrapped around a detainee in only a minute or two, perfect fo snatch and grab missions. During the Campaign Against New Dawn, TASA faced harsh criticism when it was learned that some prisoners were being transported in straightsuits with blacked out visors. There were also instances were prisoners were left in straightsuits for extended periods. Activists and behavioral psychologists argued that this was akin to sensory deprivation and isolation that has been proven to be psychologically harmful to prisoners. TASA, which uses brief sensory deprivation in its own training regimen, was dismissive of these claims, but eventually caved to political pressure. Blacked out straightsuits are no longer in use, although Isolation Training in the TASA military remains in place.   Straightsuits have also found use on the black market. Cheap straightsuits are used by Bilge Rat stowaways and human traffickers to travel in depressurized sections of a ship such as cargo bays at a fraction of the cost of ambulatory space suits. If they can afford it, Bilge Rat stowaways will get suits that have internal escape handles so they can walk around the ship at times. Human trafficking victims have no such luxury, and the traffickers prefer to keep them in what are essentially full body restraints. Unfortunately, the cheaper suits also are prone to malfunctions which can sometimes leave the wearer dead from asphyxiation, hypothermia, or heat exhaustion.
