Battle of AU 1.29 Military Conflict in Opposition: Mars | World Anvil

Battle of AU 1.29

The Battle of AU 1.29 was a conflict between the TASA Space Corps and the @PAC Space Force during the System Wide War. TASA had dispatched reinforcements to Mars via a convoy of ships centered around three Cruisers: The Ares Class Cruisers TSS Normandy and TSS Incheon along with the Atlas Class Heavy Cruiser TSS Yorkshire. Together these ships carried a mechanized brigade of TASA Marines who would be vital to relieving the forces already on Mars.   Sensing the importance of this fleet, the PAC dispatched every ship they had available in Mars orbit and in the Asteroid Belt to head off the convoy. The first ships entered effective firing range at about 1.29 Astronomical Units from the Sun in an empty expanse of space.   The TASA ships escorting the three cruisers moved to intercept while the cruisers remained defensive and evasive. Though the cruisers were not defenseless, any deviation from their course would cause them to arrive at Mars later, which could be costly to the forces on the ground. They would only take evasive maneuvers when absolutely necessary.   The PAC ships used a hard burn hit and run technique, blowing past the convoy without braking until out of firing range. The ships would then circle back around and attack from another angle. The attack came in waves that sometimes synced up to attack from multiple angles at once.   TASA lost one cruiser and the two others took significant damage, but ultimately the fleet was able to weather the attack and continue on to Mars orbit which was virtually defenseless.
