Return of Opideon

Where I've Been

Welcome back to the world of Opideon. For those that may have noticed, it's been around 4 months since I've last made an update to this world. I've had a few other smaller projects between, but I think it's time for some renovation and the continuation of work. When it comes down to the reasoning, however, there is little more to say that I simply got really burned out and haven't been able to do much writing since. The winds blow once more, the echoes of thunder return as the flame of the forge is lit once more, bright with inspiration.

I Need Your Help

Basically, I plan on conducting a small survey, of those of you that care to participate, that will entail me asking a few questions to get a better understanding of where I should go. This will include advice on the current world as, from a now distant perspective, I believe that the reason I burned out so rapidly was due to a lack of hard qualities within the Magic system meaning that there was far to vast of a world of Magic to explore while I'd hardly begun touching on the physical world. Due to this, I need your advice.

Questions

MAGIC
If you can read my current overview of magic, HERE, I would appreciate a comment on it identifying what aspects of the system are weird. It's currently made to be fairly soft, but I think that this would make the world a little hard to understand and too easily allow power creep.   If I get enough advice, I will be redoing the whole system, since it's still very new, so that the world can be perfect.   However, key to this idea, is that I do need a Magic System that lends itself to being used to generate, periodically, a collection of more powerful characters -- perhaps a caveat to the system. Advice, here or on the actual article, is welcomed. If you want a deeper idea than the previous link, I have a completed article on Alchemy and a published spell, Seaman's Bottle.
SEL
This is a question for answering in this article but, in your opinion, would it be a bad idea to include an entire country dedicated to Magic. This would entail having a main school of magic plus a number around the world, but this might fall into the "Magic Academy" trope -- however, I do have plans to intentionally divert this trope by only spending a small amount of time at the actual school as well as by having it become the breeding ground for any number of dark activities.
OTHER
As well, for those of you who may have seen a little more of this world from other experiences, I would like your honest opinion on whether or not you think that the concepts explored and the ideas that I have put out so far are interesting enough to continue to work with.

The Future

This is my main project, always and forever. I may take... extended breaks again, but I plan on working this into my learning process as I have a number of large and small writing projects and plan on filling this world out to the best of my ability and develop all of these ideas in such a way that it is fun to explore.   While away, I did discover a number of interesting and new strategies that might be implemented into the world -- nothing drastic that would involve editing the 50,000k words that I already have but ways to engage more people.   Advice, as always, is welcome in the comments or via Discord(BrokenJac#8412).

As far as worrying about the "Magic academy" trope, tropes are only bad if you throw them in without thinking about them. If magic is a complex subject in your world that requires years of training to master, an academy is definitely a good idea. just make it your magic academy instead of a Hogwarts knockoff. And don't worry! Copying an idea is only bad if you don't put any work or ideas of your own into it.

Ultimately it's about writing what you enjoy writing, imho. Sometimes that means useful articles, sometimes that means ones that interest you that aren't critical to the world itself. Any of them can find their way to stories or characters when the inspiration hits just right.
