Onai

A world woven through with the magic of the gods, Onai is an ancient and untamable land where science and sorcery hold each other in constant tension. One of many realms in a vast multiverse*, life here occupies a strange position of uniqueness and similarity, balancing the fantastical with the logical. Eons ago, a boundless war raged between the creators of the planet, leaving chaos and destruction in its wake. As the conflict faded away, the inhabitants of the world were left alone - no god has been seen to walk among the people since that Time before Time.   Since the cataclysm that led to the disappearance of the gods, the people of Onai have walked a thin line between sleeping and waking, between survival and extinction, between this world and the next over. A great variety of species, both sentient and not, have made the multitude of Rhinegard's ecosystems home over the eras, and while many now survive only as petrified bones and vague memories whispered on ancient tongues, there are beasts here who have seemingly outlasted their own time - archaic forms living alongside the numbers of their descendants.   A few great civilizations of men, elves, dwarves, and other intelligent folk have arisen in those parts of the world where the land is more easily tamed, with the vast continent of Rhinegard rising above all others as a domain of power. People there have existed in tenuous peace for millennia, seemingly separate from the racial feuds that plague elsewhere in the multiverse.   However, change looms on the horizon, and the dominion of a mad Emperor threatens to alter Rhinegard and perhaps all of Onai at its core, casting into disarray what little stability life has found since the beginning of time.     *Existing within the Dungeons and Dragons multiverse, but with my own twist that suits my interests, and maybe yours too!
