The Dark Moon Festival

The Dark Moon Festival is a religious festival hosted in NEO City, previously held in New York City before The Withering occured. The Dark Moon Festival; while held by those who believe in Starism, can have participants of those outside of the religion, being offered as a celebration of life, acceptance, and the idea that the human body is simply a vessel.

History

The Dark Moon Festival began on September 21st, 2003, originally as a small party between two different sects of Starism, the Northern Haven Starists and Black Leaf Clover Starists. The party occured after the moon, in specific parts of the world; went completely black in the sky that same night last year; with the reasoning for this being unknown. Those who believe in Starish suggest that the moon blackening is a sign of their goddess, The Final Star, giving her blessing and reminding the Starists that no matter where they are, they are being watched by her.   The party, small and held between the leaders and several friends within both sects; went off without a hitch. The next year, it was opened up to other members within Starism, several people coming in and bringing various food; drinks and ways to indulge in the festivities, before it ends the next day. Each year, the party would get bigger and bigger-- and come 2007, the downtown section of New York City would readily host various events and concessions to those who get involved; some seeing it as opportunities to make V-Units or good ole dollar bills quick; others doing it as a sense of obligation to the followers of Starism who live in New York and have helped the community in various ways; and a few who straight up believe in the ideals of Starism.   After The Withering occured, the festival was unable to be hosted in 2015 and 2016, due to all efforts being focused on helping the injured and helping New York City-- now known as NEO City, recover. In 2017, however, the festivities were back on track, with various safeguards in effect to help people celebrate without worrying about a supernatural phenonena ruining everything. Even with the Deepcore Foundation bringing it's hands into the festivities to make their own money from it, people had managed to have fun and celebrate the best they can despite everything.

Execution

The Black Moon Festival is done every year, from the 17th to the 21st of September. It's held mainly in Times Square, the various holographic advertisements displaying various advertisements for Deepcore's Products, the various shops, stands and resturaunts that one can enter and enjoy themselves at. On these days, various live shows will take place, such as musicians; magicians; and the like. Various exhibits are found throughout the place, composed of people showing off the various crafts they can do, and sometimes even selling the items they create. The height of the festival is usually on the 21st, when the moon turns completely black. Once the night ends, the festival ends with it.

Interesting festival. I wonder what is *actually* causing the moon to go black.
