Harbinger Worms Species in OmniVerse | World Anvil

Harbinger Worms

Harbinger Worms are massive centipede-like creatures that roam the world after The Withering occured. Flying up high into the air and able to dig into the ground; Harbinger Worms are a common occurance for those who have to travel across the wastelands that make up the world now. Although cities such as Deepcore Foundation-protected ones and independents are able to keep themselves secured with the right technology; there are those who are not so lucky.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Harbinger Worm has a form similar to that of a centipede, in that it has a long body with dozens of flexible limbs that end in sharp points. That's where the similarities end, however, as It's entire body is coverted in a strange; rock-like carapece that shifts and bends with the body. Jutting out of various places along the carapece are various elemental gems of Edenite; seemingly not causing it any harm. The head of the creature has six antenna jutting out of the head, three on both sides of it's body. Alongside that, the Edenite seems to amass at the head, creating a crystaline structure that helps protect it; with it also serving as an effective way to dig through the terrain.   There's plenty of space within it's carapece for the Harbinger Worm to retract it's legs into it when it is digging through the ground. The purpose of this seems to be for protecting it's body, which has led some credience to damaging its legs in the event of it attacking a city.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Harbinger Worms will feed on most about anything, however; when it detects a large amount of Mana in the area, it will oftentimes make a beeline towards it's location, consuming the Edenite formations.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The antenna along its head seem to allow it to sense the outside world around it, making up for an apparent lack of eyes on the creature. It can sense sound and vibrations in the area around it as it digs through the ground. Alongside that, the two back-most antenna on it's head allow it to sense Mana in the air.

Protection Method
With the usage of Phaselight Barriers, cities can erect massive shields over towns whenever a Harbinger Worm approaches from the surface. In the event of a Harbinger Worm approaching via the underground or if a city is unable to use the shields; they can use Hypersound Cannons to ward the creature off, potentially injuring it and forcing it to leave. If the worm does manage to get into a city, heavy force will be authorized at that point.

These sound pretty scary! I'm glad someone thought to use Hypersound Cannons on them as a way of warding them off, although I'd hate to see the damage they'd wreak in a city.

Oh noooo, they can fly?! D: Really interesting creature. I wouldn't want to come across one.
