Amthrex

General Information

The city of Amthrex is one of the big production cities, amongst Silverkeep and City of Mist, and produces large amounts of wood and wooden products. The city is on the very edge of the Maidgamau and has a large logging outpost just a few miles away from time, which is also known as the Loggers of Amthrex. The city is a mix of different races, mostly human with some Half-Elves and Half-Orcs. The Half-Orcs are the main workforce in the logging business due to their physical strength and working motivation. The city, nicknamed the Silent City, is not a large tourist attraction, and as such, has the very little hustle and bustle in the city. Apart from the occasional adventurer passing through to get into the Maidgamau woods, few people ever make it to Amthrex. Traders from other towns are not often seen in the city as traders from within the city do most trading. In some way, the city is very separated from the rest of Omarthia, but on the other hand, it is also an integral part of the production industry and thus in trade.

Demographics

The city of Amthrex is a human-dominated city, with half-races also around. About 50% of the city's population is human, with about a 50-50 spread of Half-Elves and Half-Orcs. Immigration and emigration from the town are rare, and most inhabitants never stray too far from the town itself. Most of the cities inhabitants stem from one of the founding families, and most have no urge or intention to leave the city to go out adventuring. In the city, there is, however, a relatively large number of inhabitants that have an affinity with Druidic magic. Most of these inhabitants are only able or wanting to use the bare minimum for utilitarian purposes. Only a small number has chosen to enlarge their knowledge of Druidic magic and turn their powers into something battle or utility worthy throughout the years. These druids leave the city and go to either the Gamau or Maids Rift to enter their respective druid circles.

Government

The government of Amthrex is a simple one, only having a governor and a trades officer in charge of the city. It seems weird to most of the world that only this is needed for such an expansive city. However, the city of Amthrex has always been governed in such a way, allowing for more personal connections and less bureaucracy. However, the trades officer is a requirement from the world government of Omarthia, which allows the city to trade with the rest of the world.

Assets

Stores Amthrex is a simple logging town, and it does not have many outlandish stores and shops around. However, many of the stores that are available in the city are based around supply and demand from within the city. This can range from simple food to day-to-day amenities like pots and pans, dishes, cutlery. Some dedicated logging stores sell well-made axes and working clothes to be best for the logging business. Luxury stores are far and few between, with most only selling luxury wooden items. Any other items such as metal, gems, or anything not readily available within a few hours travel of the city needs to be ordered and traded in a city nearby or at the Omarthian Ports nearby. However, few people in the city choose to go to such lengths to get luxury items and are mostly content with what they can get from the city.

Defences

The city of Amthrex has simple defences to keep threats from nature at bay. The city does not mingle in political discussions and war often, allowing them to have only limited defences and militia around at any given time. Focussing on defence is the strength of this city, allowing them to often fly under the radar of wars or even be seen as a haven for all sides of a conflict.

Structural defences

Seeing that the city thrives in producing wooden products, it should not be a surprise that their structural defences are also made from wood. The city is surrounded by wooden walls, constantly being built and expanded as the city grows and improves. These wooden walls are only there to serve a defensive purpose, as they do not have any weaponry mounted on the walls. The gates are simple but effective for most of the city's danger throughout day-to-day life.

Personal defences

The City of Amthrex has limited military power, only having their law-keeping and some reserve forces available at any one time. More is not needed, either way, seeing that they have never been attacked in war by anyone in their entire existence. If push does come to shove, they have well-equipped loggers on standby that are willing and able to fight with ease with their proficiency in axe-swinging.

Production

The main production of the city is wood, being located to the largest continuous forest in all of Omarthia, the Maidgamau forest. The Loggers of Amthrex are the producers of most of the wood that comes from the forest, which they then transport to either Amthrex or the Omarthian Ports directly for export to other cities. In Amthrex, there is also a large production of wooden products such as spoons, board, and carts. These carts, for example, are used in transporting all the wood and wooden products to cities in the vicinity of Amthrex or are sold to be used in trade at the Omarthian ports. The city of Amthrex also produces work clothing that is used at the logging camp, as well as it being exported to other cities around the world. Many people that live in either City of Mist or in Silverkeep recognise the quality of the work clothing produced in Amthrex. This type of work clothing is very sturdy and can withstand many years of abuse in the work field and light battle. The resources for this produced clothing is sourced from the Omarthian Ports, seeing that the city does not have a large supply of native animals to provide for the leather.

Trade

The city of Amthrex is a large pillar in the economy of Omarthia, providing most of the wood in the country from the small city they live in. From this city, a large amount of money trades hands for the selling of wood or wooden products and for buying any foreign materials such as leather, iron, silver or mithril. The city is relatively wealthy, never needing to worry about paying off any of its inhabitants' debts. The city trades officer is one of the most important officials in the city and within the region, allowing for the actual trade between cities to exist.

History

The city of Amthrex is a fairly recent addition to the lineup of the bigger cities in Omarthia. Once a nomadic town, it is now settled down, expanding rapidly every year. Due to the city being close to the forest, many attacks from wildlife and even from the Coillte Sióg have an easy entrance from Maids Rift. Historically, the city has been one of the more peaceful cities around, trying its very best to stay neutral when and where it can and even if it can't only defends and does not actively attack. This approach has been fairly effective, even if it has not been for most other settlements around Amthrex itself. Throughout the history of Amthrex and even before it, the city and its inhabitants have always had a knack for druidic magic, allowing the forest to effectively heal itself and improve the farmlands around the city or in the past around the nomadic settlement. The more powerful inhabitants of the city tend to travel to the Maids Rift or Gamau and join their respective druid circles.
