My previous name and history may be lost to the wind, but it was a small price to pay. It ensured that I have all the time needed to preserve everyone else's stories. — Caezin
Caezin is a well renowned bard and archivist. He lives with his husband
Gizmo in their apartment attached to the
Trinket Depot. He is non-verbal, autistic, and communicates through sign. This does not hinder his work. Caezin uses
translator gloves along with a mix of magic and other tech during his various performances.
Physical Appearance
Caezin is 5'2 with an average build. He has light brown skin covered in freckles. His hair is brown and a bit wavy; it is around shoulder length and styled with an uneven haircut. He has green eyes. They are not solid like Gizmo's, but they too have a small rotating gear visible in each one.
His ears are slender and pointed. Caezin usually wears three stud piercings along the bottom of each ear. They are spaced evenly from lobe to tip. Sometimes he'll wear ones connected with small chains. For special occasions or performances, he'll even wear cuff jewelry on the top of each.
Personality
Caezin is just as friendly and outgoing as his husband. However, he isn't as reserved and is more willing to be open with others. Despite his general laid back demeanor, Caezin is always energetic and expressive during performances and even regular conversation. This is best reflected through his personal style of signing. He has a tendency to scare and startle easily.
Even though he enjoys socializing and entertaining others, Caezin does get drained and overstimulated easily. He used to experience burn out and meltdowns on a regular basis, but has learned better coping mechanisms over the years. Gizmo has helped ground him in many ways and he appreciates this more than he could ever express.

I love stimming! Thankfully I've been able to freely do so all my life and haven't had to mask any of my traits. I use a variety of stims for many reasons. It's both a form of expression and a way to help regulate myself in such an overstimulating world. — Caezin
Early Life
Caezin was born to two elven fathers. He is the eldest child with twin younger sisters. They lived in a small, tight-nit village on an island that is now lost to the sea. His community valued story telling / oral traditions and music. Caezin took to these and was always entranced during each gathering.
During these years, he learned to play a wooden drum unique to his culture. He loved the light sounds it produced and learned to make his own. Caezin produced a small set of varying sizes and still owns them. They are usually kept in his archives, but he pulls them out for performances based around traditions.
Before Gizmo
Caezin loved his village's stories so much that he wanted to help preserve them. There weren't many written anecdotes and legends. He spent much of his free time sitting with his elders and writing down their tales into a collection of notebooks. Most were written before their island began to sink. Caezin took this collection with him when he moved to Omari with his family.
I was sad that I couldn't capture all the stories my people cherished. This would have to do. I took those books with me through every life change. They were guarded and protected. These were the first set of tales that I would help keep alive. — Caezin
Their island was one of the last to sink. Many settlements were well into development by time they arrived. Caezin took up residence in Paituli on the southern island of Zedrath. Within two years he managed to open a bookshop. He lived in Paituli up until Gizmo came into his life.
A Fateful Meeting
One Summer day, a new shop popped up next to his seemingly overnight and without warning. It was the Trinket Depot. Gizmo visited the same day to introduce himself and possibly find rare books for the shop. They hit it off quickly and Caezin was more than happy to show Gizmo his growing book collection.
The two became fast friends and took turns visiting each other. Gizmo loved listening to him info dump over tea. Caezin enjoyed wandering the never ending halls of the Depot. Within a year they were dating and couldn't be happier. This was the longest Gizmo had ever stayed in a town with his shop.
Before long, Gizmo asked Caezin if he would like to move in with him so that he could keep teleporting the Depot. He was also welcome to continue selling his books in an area of the shop. Caezin agreed and after a week of packing the two set off for new adventures.
Enchanted Performances
Since the Depot traveled to many places, Caezin wanted to return to his roots of telling stories to others. With Gizmo's help, he created methods that would work and also captivate an audience. His shows would start off simple. Over time he'd refine the technique and incorporate both magic and technology into his routine.
Caezin's early shows involved playing recorded music while he either signed out the stories or acted them out himself. After a couple years he learned magic. Gizmo connected him to an older bard acquaintance. Through them Caezin learned how to project images. He was also introduced to the keyboard and learned how to program it.
In recent years he now plays the music himself while utilizing his new skills and tools to project the images on stage. Caezin takes time to carefully plan out each show. Word spread through each place they visited over the years. His performances were unlike any other. People of all ages loved them, but tracking down his location was hard.
I wish I could tell my fans when and where I'd perform next. The nature of Gizmo's shop makes that difficult. I do find it amusing that there seems to be a club dedicated to predicting where I'll be next. I've learned to hold off until the end of each visit as Gizmo usually stays for a couple days minimum. — Caezin
Something Lost
After several years of a happy marriage, traveling, and performing, life was going well for Caezin. Until it wasn't.
One evening while Gizmo was out, someone broke into the shop. Caezin tried to handle the situation, but was shot before he could work out a compromise. He bled out in the main foyer while the burglar ran off with their stolen items.
Gizmo managed to return just as Caezin drew his last breaths. He didn't have any magic to revive him nor had access to anyone nearby that did. He said goodbye to many lovers over the years, but there was something about Caezin that made Gizmo want to fight to keep him.
There was only one thing he could think of that might work.
Despite knowing their rules about "keeping the balance", I still had to try. They immortalized my being. Why couldn't they do the same for my beloved?
I picked up Caezin's body with the utmost care and rushed to the portal door. With shaky hands I found the needed key and fumbled with the lock. Once it opened I stepped through and shouted for them to appear.
It took a lot of convincing and pleading. They finally gave in and had me lay Caezin's body before them. I stepped back and only hoped it would work. His soul would also need to be willing to come back to me.
The entity placed one hand over Caezin's eyes and pulled out a bronze mechanical heart from their robes with the other. They looked up to me one last time. I gave a nod as I wrung my hands before me.
Without more hesitation, they thrust the heart into his chest. A bright glow surrounded them as their blessing was bestowed upon Caezin. — Gizmo recalling his frantic efforts to save his husband.
Something Gained
Gizmo's efforts worked. Caezin wasn't ready to leave and willingly allowed the revival. His new life would come with some stipulations, however.
With his new "heart" and blessing, Caezin was now immortal just like his husband. In return, his previous name and history would be wiped from everyone who knew him. Upon waking he chose the name Caezin. The entity then briefed him on the second half of their deal.
Memory Collector
Caezin could continue to live as he pleased, so long as he worked on the being's side project. They wanted him to take on the role as an archivist. He was to write down and preserve as much history and memories as he could. There were no hard rules on how to do so, as long as he didn't kill anyone or ruin the natural balance.
The entity granted them another door to attach to the Depot. It was to be protected at all costs. The door led to a massive library where Caezin would store and maintain his memory books. It seemed to exist on its own never-ending plane just like the main shop.
Nice read and interesting character. Really like reading the story of how he ended up becoming an immortal. I wonder still how many people in your world know sign language? Or did he get the translator gloves really quickly?
Thank you! Sign has gradually become more available over the years as the world tries to be more asessible. As example, classes are free to anyone wanting to learn. The gloves were a recent buy as they are fairly new tech.
