History of Omadon

In the beginning, there was darkness – Nychta – and light – Fos – that existed in two equal parts; the light above and darkness below. One day, the curious Fos reached out to touch Nychta. A great star appeared there like a hole punched into the darkness, and Fos was amazed by the beauty of it. Fos began to swirl into the darkness, wanting Nychta’s beauty for itself. More and more stars appeared as Fos and Nychta fought and, eventually, there were countless stars speckled across the darkness, and it had become more beautiful than the light. Jealous, Fos sank below and created Omadon – land and water, plants and trees – in an attempt to become more beautiful than Nychta. Fos created the sun to block out the darkness for half the day, so that it didn’t have to look at Nychta anymore. Fos slept while the stars hung in the darkness above, and Nychta waited patiently for some chance at revenge.

The first star, Protos, who had watched Fos’s journey since the very beginning and felt grateful to them for being created, fell from the darkness to become the first man. He vowed to keep beauty and peace alive in Omadon for eternity. But Protos was all alone in Omadon, and the day came when he yearned for someone to share it with. He asked Fos to bestow upon him the power of creation, that he may make the land even more beautiful. For life, he’d said, is the most beautiful thing of all. Fos, seeing what a kind and gentle man Protos was, agreed. Protos was granted this power, and he set out to create life. Of course, he did not know how to properly wield such power, and it took him a long time to get it right. The first creature, his first “mistake,” was the horse. Following that, all manners of creature were created; beautiful, magnificent animals as well as vile, evil beasts. Finally, using a drop of his own blood, Protos successfully created another man. He named this man Baz. Baz was jealous of the power that Protos possessed, and asked Fos for a power of his own. But Fos refused, for in Protos’s quest to create beauty, he had also created dark, evil creatures, which made Fos upset. So, Baz waited until nightfall and asked Nychta for power instead. Nychta, seeing this as his long-awaited chance at revenge, bestowed upon Baz the power to summon the end of Omadon, and the power to create the Realm of the Dead – Divasi – where all of the evil creatures mistakenly created by Protos would go after death. There, they would wait until Baz summoned them. Nychta then urged Baz to watch Omadon grow and fall for centuries, so that Fos would suffer as Nychta had. Baz agreed to do as he was told, and Nychta gave him a gift; the shofar with which he would someday summon the end of all creation. When the day broke and Fos learned what Baz had done, he became angry. Protos had created this man who brought darkness into Fos’s place of beauty and light, and Fos demanded that Protos make amends. He allowed Protos to create one last being whose purpose would be to defeat Baz and, afterward, Fos would take back Protos’s power of creation.

Ita & Protos fell in love and, soon, Ita became pregnant, and she and Protos began the race of humanity. Other creatures that Protos had created began reproducing, too, including the Mori and the Kelpies, the Mermaids, and all other living things in Omadon.
