Troskapets Juveler

(Norwegian) The Jewels of Fidelity

A Statement of Power

Within the headquarters of the Barnema Trade Company sits an ornate breastplate inlaid with nine large gemstones of flawless beauty. Purely decorative in nature, the piece speaks to the power of the company within the continent of Seclora - each gemstone represents one of the member city-states to the continental trade alliance.   Although it has never happened, returning a city-state's gemstone to its leader would send a clear message akin to a declaration of war.

Origin

In addition to their original charter, the Barnema Trade Company was also given a large gemstone from each of the founding city-state's leaders as a symbol of allegiance to their joint venture (Dverghjem, Helsoynes, and Hogeve). This act of generous subservience to the aggregated benefit of the triumverate over the individual city-state became tradition for each subsequent member to the alliance.

Worldbuilding Advent Calendar 2020 - 7 / 31
This piece is partially inspired by The Priestly Breastplate / The Breastplate of Aaron, particularly its overall dimensions.   The gemstones are taken from the 1,000 gp and 5,000 gp gem tables from D&D's Dungeon Master Guide (5e). The weight of each stone was approximated as a sphere of diamond (Density: 2.0312 oz/in3).   References
