Alverton

Capital of Soltus

Alverton, also known as The Golden City, is the capital of the empire of Soltus and is one of the largest trading hubs of eastern Olora. It has a series of large bazaar marketplaces and is divided up into seven districts surrounding the Anu River that cuts through it.

History

Alverton was originally a large fortified military base known as Bluescale Fort owned by the Delvos empire, built during the Second Age of Dragons by the dragonborn prophet known as Froxiros of Clan Bluescale. During the Age of Fire, it was stormed as part of the Battle of Four, where it was destroyed during the conflict.   During the Age of Unity, the rubble was removed and the Soltus empire laid claim to it, building it into a large city to symbolize the rebirth of the world after the dragon's rule. This construction took many years, but when it was completed, it was crowned 'the greatest city in all of Olora.'   Since then, Alverton has been building its population steadily, as it acts a de facto hub for most travelers coming into the eastern areas of Olora from other areas.   In recent years, the guilds have been gaining more power over the nobles, which are struggling to hold their patriarchal power over the districts.   In 1009, King Tychus Thorne's son Prince Nolan Thorne fell ill with a disease and eventually passed away, despite the king's efforts to help him. The king started also steadily falling ill, and as of 1018, is more or less on his deathbed.   Many people believe the king's time is short, and without an heir to take his throne, there was been a large clamor over who it will be passed to. Each district will be voting on a new leader to take power, so much political espionage and cutthroat tactics have been afoot to try and vy for power over Alverton - and by consequence, Soltus. These small plays by the political atmosphere has been dubbed 'the war for the crown' by most commoners.
