Shade Hills
The more barren stretch of land in the center of the Karican Continent, between Thiriel and Karica. The land itself is dark, dim and constantly tinted a light black due to the time it got scarred by the Shadow Plane when old King Fellmantle unleashed it upon Karica.
Geography
Shade Hills are a stretch of barren, dark, dying forests and hills, constantly tinted in shadow. The landscape, while healing slightly, likely cannot ever return to its original state ever again, so it remains a shaded forest forever.
Ecosystem
The hills are filled to the brim with monstrosities, some more benign but some outright aggressive. Should one stray off the lit paths that wanderers from Karica, Thiriel and Shadows Refuge have lined with Hallowwood and warding talismen they are sure to be attacked by a stray shadow or undead. The ecosystem outside of the paths is voracious, essentially living in a constant war with itself as every mindless undead beast and shadow is fighting for its life, food, or control.
Localized Phenomena
While rifts can open anywhere in the world it is all too common in Shade Hills to the point that adventurers should take utmost care when traveling through these lands as to not get sucked into the Shadow Plane in an instant.
Climate
The climate is eerily stagnant, never feeling too hot and never feeling too cold as the winds seem to shift with the Hills themselves. Off the Hallowood paths however the air will begin to feel cold, as if the heat is being sapped straight from ones body by the land itself.
Fauna & Flora
The fauna within the Hills exist as an almost evil mirror of the surrounding landscape, most normal animals that die within the Hills will quickly resurrect as a more mindless version of themselves, now driven by an insatiable hunger to devour others. This does not just extend to animals, anything that dies in the Hills will likely return in some way, though no longer its former self, devoid of a soul. The corruption of dead things within the Hills extends to plants as well, living carnivorous plant creatures lining the central forests, also fighting for food with everything else.
Natural Resources
Apart from everything that Karica has, Shade Hills has a unique wood that grows only here and in the Lands Of Shadow, Duskwood, a dark purple tinted wood that is lighter than its counterparts while still packing the same punch. Alongside Duskwood, the people of the Hills have found a way to cure, sanitize and eat the undead.
History
Shade Hills is a relatively new area within the world, only coming to be during (PLACEHOLDER) when King Fellmantle made a pact with the Empty Lord and unleashed the Shadow Plane on Karica in an attempt to attain a more subservient, stronger kingdom. While most of Karica recovered well from the Shadows that used to infest it the Hills were not as lucky, transforming into a permanent scarred stretch of land in the center of Karica. Despite this, the people of Thiriel, Karic and Tuya in their newly forged alliance on the year of (PLACEHOLDER), banded together and spoke to the new leader of the Hills, an ancient Fetchling straight from the Shadow Plane known as Arazel, who like many other denizens from that plane was displaced during King Fellmantles rule and now reside within the Hills as their new home. Shade Hills and their new city in the center, Shadevale, now exist as yet another civilization upon the Karican continent, establishing trade routes with the surrounding countries.
Tourism
While traditional tourism is incredibly scarce, adventurers make trips through the Hills often, whether its to seek out lost trinkets within the surrounding forests, taking on jobs from the (CLERIC PLACEHOLDER NAME) and traders that need protection when going through the paths.
