Asteria

Asteria, formally known as the Nation of Asteria, is the current Naval Power of Nula.   Founded by Ordis Vexson in 1190 when he and his followers landed on Nepta's Isle in the Asterian Island Chain, it has grown to occupy the surround Islands and Coastlines. Asteria has done much for Nula. The creation of the Citadel assisted in the spread of knowledge and the Common Tongue has helped unite the world and allowed for inter-nation communications. The Trade produced by Asteria ensures that not only does the nation itself flourish, but other nations as well.   While it has a long and cultured history, it is a nation on a delicate balance. It needs others to survive. Should the world turn it's back on Asteria, and the Nation become unable to force it, they would wither away.

Structure

The High King

A recent term for the position which has always been tied to the first born of the Ordis Family at the time. It was once Thane in the times of Ordis Vexson, then Jarl for Wulfric, and finally became High King with the ascension of Allistar. The High King is the predominant authority in Asteria.  

Royal Family

The Royal Family holds quiet a lot of power in Asteria, each understanding they speak for the King in his stead. The Queen wields the most authority, considered by many as second only to the King himself. Following the Queen is the Heir, or Crown Prince; with the rest of the family following. Typically, when of age, the children of the King serve in some Chief Role or Capacity to educate themselves on how to lead.  

Jarls and Thanes

Jarls are tasked by the King to oversee and command large ares of land, such as Harbor Island or the Vexland Coast. Jarls are considered an honored position and are often times somehow tied to the King's Family themselves. They hold rights to raise personal levys, but must still meet quotas to supply the Asterian Military. Thanes are a secondary noble rank, those charges with overseeing a City or Stronghold and the surrounding lands.  

The Government of Asteria

The Government of Asteria is formed as much like an advisory council rather than a bureaucratic center.

Chiefs

Chiefs are heads of departments, be they trade, diplomacy, interior, etc. They are appointed by the King and conduct the day to day business to improve the Nation all under the approval of the King.  

Advisory Council

During any major event, the Jarls, Thanes, Chiefs, and other important figures sit and advise the King prior to them making a decision. While not a formal entity, it is considered common law and common place.

Assets

Asteria has all its heart could imagine via trade. But what it holds dear are the resources it gathers on its own. Lobsters, Fish, Crab, and Sea Luxuries can be found in plenty in the Nation. Warhorses, a heavy, tough breed breed on the Islands, roam the plains of the coastlines now alongside herds of cattle. Wood, Stone, and precious metals are few and far between; but the conquest of the coastlines brought in grains and fruits.

History

Founded in 1190 by Ordis Vexson, the Nation of Asteria formed from a small settlement on Nepta's Isle into the Naval Power of the World.   The first focus of the Nation was their own stability. They built their capital into a city that could thrive as they began to explore nearby islands. While they were faced with struggles and conflicts early on, they pushed through them to reach new heights. In 1225, the Circle was formed out of Asteria, the first major religious organization focused on collecting and spreading knowledge passed down for the Gods and Man.   In the 1300's they discovered Teallach, and the beginning of their friendship started that day. With Teallach's assistance they were able to stop the spread of the Gole Kingdom, and even push them back some.   After 1350, Asteria began to increase its Navy drastically. By 1450 boasting the largest Navy in the Realm by far. 1500 saw the first engagement of this Navy while versing Gole Ships in the Battle of the Prince's Sea, where Ragnar Ordis lead the Neptia to victory against four Golish Cogs.   By 1507, Asteria had cemented itself as a critical nation in the world. Necessary for anyone who wanted to become more than just an important figure in their local region. The nations trade and knowledge allowed it to become intertwined with many people around the world.

Demography and Population

Population and Culture

A vast majority of the population identifies as Asterian. But this has come to be more a culture than a ethnic identity. Many years ago when Natives were met, they were welcomed in so long as they were peaceful and willing to adopt the Asterian Culture. While they are normally large, slightly tanned, with blonde or brown hair and lightly colored eyes, you can find Asterians in many shapes or sizes. The determining mark are in fact The Marks, which distinguishes real Asterians from Immigrants.  

Regions

There are three main regions in Asteria, which are then broken up into further regions.  

Asterian Islands

This refers to any and all Islands in the Southwest. Including the Isles and Harbor Isle respectfully. These Islands contain two of the 3 major regions.   The Royal Domain of the Asterian Isles: The four main islands in which the Nation of Asteria was founded, Nepta's Isle, Agnar's Isle, Ragnar's Isle, and the Forgotten Isle. These four Islands fall under the Royal Domain and are in direct control of the High King. While two Thanes help in ruling Ragnar's and the Forgotten's Isle, they answer to the King Directly.   The Jarldom of the Harbor: The Harbor Isle, the largest Island in the South, makes up its own Jarldom, ruled by the Vani Family. This Island boast the City of the Harbor, 3rd largest city in Asteria.  

Golen

The Western Coastline conquered during the war with the Goles. This land is rich in stone and gold, while lacking in plains for farming.   The Jarldom of Vexland and Southerland: While now considered two regions, they were once one. But due to expansion they have begun to require separation, which the King is soon to grant. This land is ruled by the Vex Family, the branch Family of the Ordis'
