Rihn Disease
Transmission & Vectors
Rihn Disease is spread by ingestion (eating carriers of this disease.) It is not able to go airborne and can only survive in water for up to 5 hours. Transmission through water is possible, however, but very unlikely. The disease can stay active in a corpse for up to seven days.
Causes
Rihn disease can be contracted from contact and/or consumption of infected Hickins
Symptoms
Beside an agressive fever, this disease is known to neutralize the acids made in the body, which is mainly visible in stomach acid. Due to the stomach acid going from acidic to basic, food passing through the stomach doesn't get broken down properly anymore and in turn the body starts to struggle with taking in nutrients.
In it's early stages this disease is usually characterized with slight fever, bloating, nausea, diarreah and hunger even after eating. In later stages this disease can also cause severe fevers, heartburn, hairloss, nails becoming brittle, fatigue and various neurological issues like changed or impaired vision or tingling sensations in the limbs.
Treatment
Rihn Disease is found to be treated by a concoction of potions often known as Sikhil or Sikhil Tonic and contains a combination of Elderling, Doric and Tumil Root. Sometimes stewberries are processed into the tonic as well to help give the patient a boost of easily digestable nutrients.
Beside medicine it is very important for patients to drink enough fluids with an extra boost of vitamins and minerals, healers will usually create a concoction known as Fluid Booster, which is also a popular treatment for individuals suffering from mild to severe dehydration.
Prognosis
Overall Rihn Disease is very treatable, if caught early. In later stages or when left untreated Rihn Disease will however become a death sentence. Due to the nature of this disease the hosts don't have enough physical strength to battle this disease by themselves. The disease will in turn be transmitted again to other creatures when the corpse of the diseased is eaten by scavengers and insects. Insects generally can't cach this disease, but will be able to carry it and spread it, making treatment of this disease and proper hygiene with the dead very important.
Hosts & Carriers
Hickins are known to actively attract this disease and to be able to spread it to others.
