Sonora Sanpe

Sonora is a former courier pilot from the country of Caldo on Capu. After a political incident risked her life, she fled somewhat unwittingly to the The Mashveya where she met her now-wife Lenasa Pompebo. Since the incident, she fell into a depressive slump spending much of the day sleeping or eating biscuits in Lena's pantry. She has begun taking up piloting again, with an increase in job postings since the recent re-arrival of the Federation.

Personal history

Sonora's parents served on the management of the Vihay Syndicate and worked in titanium dioxide (white paint) manufacturing. In the winter months she traveled often; one of her mothers had a wirefriend, Karja Salchawa in the crawler city-state of Yagel, to whom she would fly out with Sonora and with whose daughter Sonora spent most of the time kicking rocks and going to the dispensary with.
Karja was a local politician of some repute, and her daughter, Jutkara, friends with local personalities of the city; she often drove from crawler to crawler conveying informal messages between them and brought Sonora along for the ride to snoop on politics and gossip, helping her to become ingratiated with the locals as well. At age 16 (Earth years) Sonora and Jutkara nearly caused an international incident between Yagel and Caldo, when Jutkara spilled cleaning fluid into a delegate's drink at a conference on regional development initiatives, but they managed to snatch it back and replace it at the last minute.
Back in Caldo, her parents encouraged her in chemistry but she had acquired a taste for courier work and travel and trained as a pilot instead. With expanded horizons, some of her friends in Yagel called on her skills, which she hardly refused; this would eventually land her in a genuine incident as she found herself on the wrong side of the Loesa Strategic Committee and her aircraft was shot down, though not before she'd managed to acquire a low-noise rocket pistol from one of her more gracious contacts. By several strokes of luck, she managed to steal her way aboard a lifter route to Nmebes, a country in the Mashveya, and arrived in the port of Amua several days later bewildered and in a rather battered designer dress.

Mental Trauma

While her mothers were at work in Caldo her aunt would often be around the house, and frequently vented her problems on Sonora, asking her to run tiring errands and warning her of the despair that came of people. She would also ask Nora about her life, probing for answers and criticizing her casually; though her mothers tried to fight her aunt, the lady was popular in the nighborhood. Nora developed strong fears of abandonment and of solving problems, and became afflicted by a strong perfectionism. Though she finds making friends fairly easy, maintaining friendships is another story.
