Darkness's Venom
The Dark Sea and its Dark Creatures both exude the same venom, only referred to as Darkness's Venom. This venom is most commonly interacted with when fighting a Dark Creature and they either scratch or bite someone. The victim will not notice the venom in their system, as it is slow acting and hard to notice. Whatever variant of Darkness attacked, their respective venom will try to corrupt you into another monster of the same poison. Fear begets fear and all that.
There is no known early preventative measure to counter the venom, as its early stages are hardly noticeable. The most distinctive and visible known way to measure how far in the process a victim is is their eye color. It will slowly become darker and darker until the iris is pitch black, where it will then spread into the sclera until that too reaches a pitch black. Past that point, corruption is not known to be contained, slowed or stopped, and the victim is considered past saving.
Besides the physical changes, their mind will warp as well. These changes are also slow and subtle, leaving the victim unaware of their changes unless they are cured. Most would describe these emotional responses as deadly, not for their explosiveness but their ability to be hidden, unobserved, or unrecorded. A creature of Fear, for example, will prey on those who might already be afraid or have reason to be afraid. These changes then go more unnoticed than if a creature of Fear attacked a person known for their feats of bravery.
There are methods of countering this venom, but most are experimental still and are not always successful. The venom has no known peak that leads to a drop in potency; at least, it hasn't been discovered yet.
