Ode To A Rogue

This is the famous poem written by Clarabelle Petichou to Franz Pierrenoir after he assassinated her nemesis. Franz went on to establish the Obsidian Fist. Clarabelle and Franz were great lovers.

Purpose

The poem declare Clarabelle's undying love and appreciation of Franz.

Document Structure

Publication Status

Plaques with the words of the original letter hang in the Ruby Spark and the City Hall. The original is under glass in the foryer of the Obsidian Glove. Copies are also available as tourist material in many establishments in Zahrain. It is one of Zahrain's treasures.

Historical Details

Background

Zahrain was a rougher, more lawless place in the 1800's. It was before the mayor and city council decided to create a safer, cleaner city for residents and tourists alike.

History

In the year 1854 AG, a competitor of the Ruby Spark and Clarabelle Petichou attempted to kill her out of jealousy. Franz Pierrenoir intervened and saved her life. That began a life-long love affair between the two. In response, Clarabelle penned the ode and sent it to Franz. She also encouraged him to form the Obsidian Fist. The town fathers also instituted the Red Bonnet and the Crimson Guard at that time.

Public Reaction

The ode is beloved by the citizens of Zahrain as well as visitors to the city.

Legacy

The poem is treasured and thought to be one of the best of its kind in the world.

Ode To A Rogue

I did not know the mysterious man.
He acted fast to rescue me.
He saved me from the killers plan.
Of him, more I wish to see.
His hair and eyes are dark as night.
His beard and mustache are trim and neat.
The skin of his body is smooth and tan.
His smile is wicked and purest white.
He stands just a trifle over six feet.
Oh, how roguishly handsome is that man!

His courage and quickness protected my life,
From the one who would sleigh me with his knife.
He saw from afar the predicament I was in,
And shot the man just under his chin.
Rapidly and gently he came to see,
How badly shaken I might seem to be.
I sat in my carriage with not a scratch.
So, he called the guard with some dispatch.
He escorted me to the Ruby Spark,
And, by then he had left his mark.

Unto him my heart did fascine.
We talked awhile and became friends.
I encouraged him to become an assassin.
I hope our love grows and never ends.
I'll keep his deeds close to my heart.
His manner is pleasing and full of charm.
I can never be out of his debt.
And, from him I shall not depart.
I know he'll always keep me from all harm.
Though frought, I'll treasure the day we met.
