Written by Drax-TheDarkLord

Personality:

Pros:

He is overall a very happy and a cheery extroverted person, a free spirit who only loosely follows laws an traditions. He is a very hopeful person, remaining his regular self even in the most hopeless of situations. Matthias loves music, and playing musical instruments such as a flute or a lyre. Among his other likes are flowers, mainly the Amarylis, kiwi and bananas in terms of food. He loves the nature and animals, mainly parrots and chameleons.

Cons:

As everyone else, Matthias has a bad side. He has a problem with understanding personal boundaries and space, often making people hate is guts when they get to know him better, but some don't really mind. He tends to be a big cowards in confrontations, such as someone getting attacked, rather running away than helping. Due to his life being riddled with Servant of gods, mainly Teraany murdering his people, he has a deep hatred for anyone with red skin, no matter how good of a person they prove themselves to be. He dislikes sea critters such as octopuses, mango and is lactose intolerant.

Motivation:

Matthias keeps playing music not only because he loves his art, but also to cheer up victims of the raids of the Servants of the blood gods, giving them hope an motivation to start over. It is what motivates him, it is what keeps the cheer on his face, it his his fuel, his soul.

Backstory:

Matthias, as most of the other people grew up with his father, a fisherman, and his mother, a tailor, in one of the small villages on the Whitestone Island. When he was 5, his village has experienced a raid from the Servants of the blood gods. The red warriors fought their way through the village, killing, raping and kidnapping everyone in sight. His parent were caught in all of this, as Matthias hid in the nearby forest. He lost his parents and his home, becoming an orphan.

The only thing left was a flute his mother gave to him. He always loved music and singing, making this the greatest gift he could have ever gotten. He spent his childhood going from house to house, hoping to get some food and shelter, never settling down. Normally orphans get taken in by the temples or some families, but luck was not on his side. No matter how many temple he visited, no matter how many doors he knocked on, no one could take him in. The number of orphans was just too great to handle with so many raids.

As the boy grew up, he started to practice playing his flute and signing. At first, one could barely listen to it, but over time, he grew better and better at it. Over a few years, his music became more than pleasant to the ears. However, to his performances on the streets came only few, most of them tossing a silver plate or two as they passed by. But her never gave up. He practiced harder and harder for years and years, without a break. Once he reached adulthood, he managed to attract enough people to his performances around the island, that he could afford basic needs such as food and clothes. But even after 4 more years, it remained the same. No matter what, there was never enough people to form more than a small crowd.

Once he reached the age of 20, everything changed. As Matthias was performing in one of the villages, he became a victim of another raid, just like the one from his childhood. Flaming arrows covered the sky, burning everything to the ground. Screams could be heard from every part of the village, as blood filled the streets. He managed to survive until the army arrived, chasing the raiders away from their island. All survivors were gathered at the village center, where the soldiers gave them food and offered help.

Matthias started to play his flute and sing to himself in between, to comfort himself and forget about his surroundings, even for just a moment. But this time, his music was different. It was amazing before, but this was more than that. It filled everyone around with hope, making them smile in these hard times. First time ever, not just a few people, but every survivor of the village, even soldiers surrounded the man, just enjoying his angelic voice and the calming flute.

Once his performance ended and he realized the size of the crowd, he got showered in cheers, clapping and gifts. One of them was a lyre from an old woman who lost her family, which he plays on to this day, on his famous performances around the settlements hit by the raids.

Music:

Matthias is the greatest musician and singer in a very long time. His performances are known around the whole of Whitestone Island. He travels to places hit by the raids by the Servants of the blood gods and brightens everyone's mood up with his performance, expecting no pay in return. He still gets money and gifts, which are often enough to fulfill his needs, like food, clothes and shelter.

Instruments:

Outside of singing, he plays a lyre an old woman gave him 7 years ago, when he first performed, and an old flute his mother gave him more than 22 years ago, which he somehow managed to kept in a decent condition.

Songs:

While his songs aren't exactly revolutionary, he sings about hope and how everyone will shake off the horrors of today and build a better future for them and their children, which seems to be just enough to make his performances perfect.

Performances:

His performances are rather simple, mainly relying on his singing and instruments. He can't afford anything flashy anyway.
Matthias is a 27year old Fallendey man and a Dayneans of the Masked of Dantea religion. He lives on the Whitestone Island as a traveling musician.

Description:

Matthias is a light blue-skinned, rather skinny, 169cm tall man, with a hint of purple on his skin. His neck-long wavy silver white hair go nicely with his long tunic, which is decorated with streaks of blue, green and golden threads, in a spiraling style. Even through the plain white mask he is wearing, one can see his emerald green eyes and the cheer on his face, that seems to never stop.

The Legend:

Matthias is, and always will be known and remembered as one of the greatest musicians ever, if not the greatest. While he might not have done a grand thing such as calming down a storm or turning the tied of a war with his music, he will be remembered as the man who kept the spirits of a whole civilization up while it was trapped in a cycle of hopelessness, eventually putting an end to the raids, plaguing the Whitestone Island and it's inhabitants.

Fan quotes:

  • I lost my husband and children yet his music made me smile even when I was grieving their deaths.
  • Beautiful,...no, not just beautiful, it's more than that. His music brings tears to my eyes. Tears of joy. May the goddess bless him.
  • I can't help but smile even when I just look at the man.
  • He takes out the lessness from hopelessness.
  • I saw him on the streets when he was just a kid. He has grown so much.
  • Always the same, but I still don't get tired of it.
  • Love the music, but he should learn to respect people's boundaries.

Nice read. Must be quite a good talent if he can ease peoples suffering right after the traumatic events. I wonder if there is some sort of magic in his songs? Is his lack of boundries offputting to everyone or are there also people who don't mind it that much?   Small note: the background section is one piece of text, you could divide it into paragraphs to make it easier on the eyes :)

Nice character. It's sad that nobody was there to take care of him just because there were so many refuges, but good that he managed to teach himself to play nonetheless, and then later being able to help people :D
