The Scalp Steppe
Geography
A nearly barren expanse of shrubland the Scalp Steppe stretches from the northern border of Daqin to the Hyperborean Mountains in the north. The passage of seasons are marked not by a changing of leaves, but a thin layer of snow coating the ground and howl of the northern winds.
Fauna & Flora
The Steppe's only vegetation are hardy shrubs and grasses, able to subsist on few nutrients and cable of weathering the biting winds.
The Steppe is inhabited by a variety of herd animals, most of which have been domesticated by its human inhabitants, though a few wild herds of each remain. These animals include sheep, goats, oryx, yak, and man-goats. All creatures capable of eating the tough flora of the taiga, and traveling the vast distances between water sources.
Natural Resources
The soil of the Scalp Steppe is completely unsuitable for cultivation and has little in the way of usable mineral wealth, though mages may find some of its more exotic minerals useful as reagents. The only real measure of wealth in the Steppe are herds of livestock, be they horses, sheep, goats, antelope, or yaks.
