The Highlands
Raised up among the mountains that separate the Scalp Steppe from western Daqin is a flat land a near half mile above the sea and plains below. It is a realm of rolling hills broken only by the occasional great mountain peak and range. This desolate beauty compliments the beliefs of its inhabitants. They claim every mountain is the home of a different lethargic though harsh deity and that the plateau as a whole is the axis of the whole world. This axis is the god Juggernaut who turns the world at constant rate, without care for any creatures lifted or crushed by its wheel.
The people of the plateau herd sheep and yaks with the help of lizard birds as smart as apes and as loyal as dogs. Unlike the nomads of the plateau they are a settled people who live on permanent ranches, or if they find a higher calling within mountain bound monasteries and temples. In fact this land open to the sky is second only to Capetia in the number of its inhabitants who have taken up a religious life. These monks are known for their rigorous self discipline and wisdom in the natural world.
Natural Resources
The Highland's hundreds of springs and melting glaciers feed the great river Olm in Daqin below. Beyond that the hills of the Highlands are rich in gold, jade, orichalcum, and most precious of all metal aluminum.
