Cuthbert's followers are concerned first and foremost with being thankful for all of the wonders of life and giving back even greater gifts to those in need. They believe it is impossible to truly deserve any material or spiritual boon. Thus one should always be thankful for everything they have and be willing to give up any material wealth at the first expression of need by ones neighbors.
Second to this and seemingly paradoxical to it Cuthbert stresses the simple pleasure and enlightenment gained in the life of a hermit. His followers are encouraged to live alone while observing the sublime splendor of nature.
