mGya rKhar Empire
The mGya rKhar empire, related closely to the mGya rKhar culture which bears its name, was an early human empire that flourished on the Zhangpa Plateau and spread into southern Varshalshka following a series of wars with the giant kingdom of Ishtakar. Their shaman-kings reigned unchallenged for millennia, and even though the mGya rKhar have themselves fallen their religion of Khabze has endured all the same.
History
mGya rKhar was the first human polity to grow to any sort of sizeable proportions, both being the first human kingdom and empire and stretching across several geographical regions at its height. While Qikuo and the its Phoenix Empire may be spoken of as the birthplace of humanity and the oldest still-surviving human nation, mGya rKhar is far older; 3,000 years before the first Rose Queens ruled in central Qikuo, almost the entire Zhangpa plateau, at that time a highly fertile highland, either payed tribute to or was directly ruled by the Shaman-Kings of Zhanglipu .
Their society was theocratic, with the heads of local monasteries and druidic circles acting as rulers of surrounding villages, much as a feudal lord might rule nearby settlements from his castle, a system called Monastic Feudalism. It is also practiced by the Du Ereth today, although which came first is disputed. However, an important distinction that the mGya rKhar made as they expanded is that temporal power is revocable even if divine power is not; the Shaman-Kings had the ability to retract vassalage and territory at any time, but could not remove spiritual power, as that was granted by powers higher even than they.
Disbandment
The Shadowed Realm collapsed thousands of years ago when Ur, the First of All Dragons, rebelled against the Shaman-Kings' mind control and led the Draconomachy.
