Kingdom of Mavorenia

The Kingdom of Mavorenia, more commonly known as simply Mavorenia, is the largest successor-state of the Occidental Empire. It rules from the Late Remaran capital of Rumath and its kings claim direct descent from High King Theitmar, the last ruler of the Occidental Empire.

History

The Kingdom of Mavorenia was originally inhabited by various southern Kernuzdaic peoples, most notably the Maworni for whom the region, and thus the kingdom, is named. Alongside and opposed to Remara, the tribal kingdoms of the Maworni developed, as the fertile land and the strength and fecundity of the local peoples naturally forced the development of organized political structures. During the early years of the Remaran Empire's expansion these Maworni kingdoms were some of the greatest obstacles faced by Remara, and were a continual thorn in the side of the emperors from the time that the swamps of Lethe were tamed until the shores of the north sea were wrested from their grasp. Once, the Maworni sacked Remara itself!
The Maworni, however, were eventually overcome, and gradually the heartlands and coasts of their territory became thoroughly assimilated by the Remarans, although pockets of their older traditions remained in some remote parts of the region. From this point, Mavorenia was split into the imperial provinces of Mavorenia Superior and Mavorenia Inferior.
This state of affairs lasted until the collapse of the Remaran Empire, when northern Kernuzdaic warlords, fleeing the collapse of power there, migrated along with their peoples into the remnants of the empire, carving out new kingdoms among themselves. From this period come many of the kingdoms of Occident. These new Kernuzdaic rulers were content to work alongside the existing (albeit failing) bureaucratic structures, absorbing of them what was useful and discarding what was not. The warlords who brought Mavorenia under their control, the Meringoz, were particularly eager to do so, taking as much of the traditions and bureaucracy established by the emperors as they could, and from it deriving legitimacy and prestige. This allowed Kor the Great, king of Mavorenia, to create the Occidental Empire by bringing most of the other kingdoms either under his rule or as tributaries. Kor also worked tirelessly to strengthen the influence of the Nonerian Church, even more than his predecessors, and the paladin orders he founded served as the core of his army.
