Vale of Omens

A large expanse of rolling hills and nothing much else.   The plains that surrounded the town of Olzska are mostly barren - except for the odd tree, which even those appear to be short on life. A cracked road leads through the vale, rolling hills of grey and half-baked attempts at being green, tufts of dried grasses lining the way through towards the mountains.   The wind seems to be a constant here, blowing everything it can off the road and into the depths of the hills. Strange creatures seen at night make leaving the marked tracks unadvisable.   The road across the Vale of Omens is roughly 2 days travel on a good horse, 3 with a cart, or 7 on foot. Multiple camp spaces are cleared out, often near patches of trees so firewood is available. Olzska sits right in the middle of this area, wht road passing straight through with Claybar to the east and Arenue to the west.

Geography

Rolling hills seem to go on for days - and they do. A series of small rivers run down from the north to the south, one running close to Olzska, before the rivers join into a larger river which marks the edge of the Vale.

Fauna & Flora

During the day, a small variety of birds can be found soaring high above. Guards use the wild vultures as a guide when somebody is reported as missing, often looking for a dozen or so of them circling to lead them to a body.   Large, strange creatures roam the plains at night. Four-legged creatures seem to spring up from the shadows once the sun has set, and anybody who travels here at night is warned to seek well lit shelter before the sky is fully dark.

History

Once a beautiful vista, of lush green grass and tall proud trees, the Vale of Plenty was maintained by local farmers who kept flocks of sheep and herds of cows on these hills.

During the last major fight between the gods, the life was drained from the area, leaving very little behind. It was then renamed by the locals as the Vale of Omens, after many townsfolk died when trying to search for missing livestock after dark.
