Storms Break
A city on the edge of two worlds, Storms Break is the most diverse city in all of Obrios. Located on the edge of the Parched Lands and built around the base of the Kestramore Steps, Storms Break gets its name from being just out of reach of The Weeping, thanks to protection from the Storm Shield Peaks, a mountain range to the east.
One of the strongest Military powers, Storms Break has been locked in a vengeance fueled war with the Yoxai for the last 28 years, with both armies locked in a stalemate and unable to make up any ground.
Despite the war, Storms Break is still one of the primary sources for Dawnstones and is also responsible for the creation and distribution of Chips throughout Obrios.
Demographics
Storms Break is the most diverse city in all of Obrios and has the widest ranges of wealth distribution.
Government
Storms Break is run by a monarchy. Currently it is ruled by Queen Brightness Anara Osonia.
Storms Break was also the first city to establish the Dawn system of classification.
Defences
With the Glass Lake to the east and the barren Parched Lands to the west and south, it would be very hard to attempt a sneak attack against Storms Break as it has a wide range of visibility from all sides. The city itself only has one entrance over a large bridge that is heavily guarded and extends for a mile to the south over the edge of the Glass Lake. It is also surrounded completely by a large 50 ft wall of stone.
Industry & Trade
Shaira has a good trade reputation with the rest of Obrios and despite political tension with Juspia, the two regions still maintain their trade agreements.
Storms Break primary exports are the Chips they manufacture for the various regions and a large amount of Fish that are fished out of the Glass Lake. These supplies are either transported to the north via Light Rail, or to the south via wagon/caravan.
Storms Break relies heavily on the fresh water traded to them from Nen Doral. Without the water, Storms Break would not be able to keep their armies supplied.
Infrastructure
Storms Break is one of the only cities to have an irrigation system in the city that travels from the top of the Kestramore steps down to the city below. This is because water is such a valuable resource in Storms Break, it is important that the city can get every bit of extra water they can acquire from the mountain.
The city is also the best city in the world when it comes to mining and has a complex system of tunnels at the base of the Kestramore Steps, used for mining Shale and the production and distribution of chips. There is also a small cable car that can be taken up the side of the mountain to the higher tiers of the city for a small fee.
The city is also home to one of three Light Rail stations, and is the furthest city to the south that you can travel to via the Light Rail.
Assets
Storms Break is said to be home to the best trained warriors in all of Obrios. People will come from all over to train in the city. It also is where all the Chips in Shaira are created.
History
When the Vucboon expanded out of Nen Doral and started to settle around the rest of Obrios, Storms Break was one of the first of the new cities established. Storms Break is the only city settled by the Vucboon because of guidance from a Dawnstone vision.
The city was first established by the Shairallan clan in 1422 and was the first city built in the Shaira region.
A monarchy was quickly established, with the leader of the Shairallan clan ruling over the region from Storms Break.
Over the last 600 years, the city has had its fair share of Kings and Queens, but the Royal bloodline has stayed pure.
Storms Break and the rest of Shaira have been at war with the Yoxai for the last 28 years.
Upon discovering the Yoxai city in the Parched Lands, a treaty was going to be formed between Shaira and Navinstan. However, when the Yoxai agreed to show up to sign the treaty and celebrate the new alliance, they instead betrayed King Galathar, killing him and stealing the Royal Dawnstone. Galathars brother Elashor became King and declared war on the Yoxai, thus beginning the Parched War.
The Parched War raged on for three years, but in 2003 King Elashor was slain in the battle of the Cracked Plains.
After this death, his wife Queen Brightness Anara Osonia, took the throne as his successor.
Two years after, the Juspian's pulled their armies out of the war, declining supply troops unless Shaira released their Prince, who had recently been charged for the murder of the Eshalan High Seer, from Shades Breach. Shaira refused and have since been struggling to maintain the war effort. Neither taking any new territory or losing any for the next 23 years.
In 2028, Queen Brightness Anara Osonia decided to remarry to Brightlord Nan Marku Sivis, head of the Sivis family in Nen Doral.
Architecture
Buildings in Storms Break are primarily made out of stone, but sometimes other materials will be used in the construction.
Most buildings are very open and have large exposed windows or openings at the sides. This allows for the eastern breeze off of the ocean and the Glass Lake to pass through the buildings and keep people cool in the harsh desert heat of the two suns. Most buildings are covered at the tops as well to provide shade.
Because of the diverse population in Storms Break, the buildings range from all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors. It is common for people to hang brightly colored sashes above their doorways.
Geography
The city proper is built around the base of the Kestramore steps. It wraps almost entirely around the base of the mountain and it climbs up the side almost a quarter of the way to the top.
The city rests on the edges of the Glass Lake and the Parched Lands, with the former drying out just beyond the edge of the city.
From the wall of Storms Break, one would look out to the south or west and see an endless desert. To the east, one would see an impossibly clear, shallow lake that extends between two mountain ranges, until it appears to disappear into the horizon.
Natural Resources
The primary natural resources are Fish and Chips, but sometimes sand is also shipped out to sections of the world where it is not easily obtained. The Parched Lands is also home to a variety of exclusive plants and animals that are also shipped out by Storms Break when they are in demand.
