Eastwatch
Eastwatch is a small hamlet on the eastern coast of Obrios. It is the location of the first Storm Tower as well as the location of Yorgen's Reef, the location of the first sighting of The Drained.
Demographics
Eastwatch is along a well travelled trade route and has a variety of races from all over Obrios.
Government
Operates under the same laws as Never-Night
Defences
Eastwatch is the location of the first Storm Tower. It is the first line of defense for alerting the rest of the Lowlands against The Weeping. Located just south of the Storm Tower is a garrison, but it is mostly used to house the Storm Wardens who watch for The Weeping.
The town itself is built out of very sturdy materials and the foundations of buildings are driven deep into the group in order to withstand the abuse from the Storm Wall. The houses have deep trenches surrounding them as well that drain out into the ocean and prevent flooding.
Industry & Trade
While primarily a fishing village, Eastwatch was also built along a well used trading route and a lot of travelers and traders pass through the town. These traders and travellers either buy fish, or help transport goods to Never-Night and other surrounding settlements.
Infrastructure
Eastwatch is primarily a fishing Village, though it also is home to an essential Storm Warden tower and outpost.
The town also hosts an Inn/Tavern, a Clothier, a Blacksmith, and a General Store.
History
Eastwatch was settled in the year 736AG by Gandar Vashlow, a former hand to King Galothar before his assassination. Vashlow set up an outpost on the Eastern coast of Obrios to watch and warn of oncoming storms. Vashlow however was an entrepreneur and expanded the outpost into a small outpost and established the area as one of Obrios' few fishing villages.
Eastwatch was run by the Vashlow family, until it was discovered in 749AG that Vashlow had gone crazy, and started sacrificing people to an unknown force, draining them of their Dawnstone power. Vashlow was discovered and defeated by the towns Stormwarden's and the first Drained were discovered. Since then the town has expanded and has become an essential research location on Obrios, used to study The Weeping as well as potential causes for The Drained.
The town is now run and overseen by Never-Night and the Storm Wardens guild.
Architecture
The buildings in Eastwatch are made of stone from the surrounding mountains. The buildings are all relatively short with their foundations extending at least 5-6 feet underground. The tallest buildings in Eastwatch are two stories. The eastern facing sides of all the buildings are slightly sloped and rounded to help withstand The Weeping.
Very few buildings have windows, and the few that do have heavy shutters that can be lowered during storms to prevent the windows from being blown out and to protect the interiors.
Surrounding most of the buildings in town there are small trenches that are 1 foot wide by 5 feet deep. These trenches help collect water during the storms and also direct the water to the nearby river or the sea.
Geography
The small hamlet is located on the eastern coast of Obrios at the edge of the Great Sea. Eastwatch itself is built at the end of the Enania River.
The town is built just slightly above sea water but there is easy access to beaches and the water. as you exit the town from either the North or the South, the land starts to incline, becoming steep cliffs that overlook the sea.
If one were to wander off of the roads they would very quickly find themselves in dense tropical forest.
Not too far off the coast of Eastwatch is a large reef known as Yorgen's Reef.
This reef presented itself not long after Vashlow settled in Eastwatch and in recent years a strange temple has been discovered in the reef. This temple was the origin point of The Drained.
Natural Resources
The towns resources consist mostly of fish and other fishing equipment, though there are few farmers in the area that farm the various tropical fauna in the area as well as grapes and berries for making various wines.
