The Eyes of Night

The Eyes of Night are a collection of ten stars forming a constellation of two eyes looking down on the world. They take up a relatively small portion of the sky, but are unmistakable, since they are by far the brightest stars in the night. It is rumored that a world exists, nestled in that cluster of stars where the Shadow's physical being currently resides. The portal that might lead to it is beyond the reach of the Elves, and the Templar who control the Builders' Way Portals refuse to allow frivolous travel, even to confirm such rumors, nor will they reveal such secrets themselves.

History

The Eyes of Night is one of the few constellations observed by Elven people, and this one holds special significance for the Shalasil. It appeared in the sky the same night that Brisian T'neni became an Ascended, known as The Shadow. It is said that where the Eyes shine down on the world, that is where the Shadow's gaze currently rests. This is almost certainly false, since the Shadow's ability to detect and interact with the world's events has been demonstrated to reach far beyond the hemisphere the Eyes currently rest over. It is notable, however, that Shalasil of the The Shadow Watch notice greater potency in the abilities the Shadow grants them when the Eyes are upon them. There have even been rumors of seeing the Eyes in the sky where they should not be, and of others in the area claiming that they could not see them there. Each time this has occurred, there are reports of the Shadow's direct influence being felt. While these rumors have not been confirmed, they are none-the-less accepted by the Shalasil as fact.
