Black Coin

The coin was featureless and drank in all light that surrounded it with complete avarice. The woman looked down at the coin, manipulating it so it may perhaps catch the light, an edge, a reflection. Nothing presented itself. As she studied the coin dissonant whispers began to echo through the woman's mind. Many at first, like the caws of a flock of birds. But as time continued one voice began to become more clear. She recognized the voice, she had known this voice for a very long time. In a way, the voice was as her as she was it. It was the voice that whispered jump when standing on a cliff or the voice that considered how easy it would be to stab the other person while holding a knife in the kitchen. It has always been there, it was just louder now.   The Black Coin is an organisation that hunts and slays demons throughout Oaken'Ash. The organisation specializes in fact in all matters of demons. This is due to them adopting the demonic corruption after their training where they succeed their master.

Joining. A master will find a page while hunting, these chosen are usually the victims of demonic activity. Experiencing the horrors that demons can inflict firsthand usually breaks the prospect. Some of course are not suited for the black coins or never will be. Those that are not are committed to care at various temples or ultimately are laid to rest. Those that are fated for the black coin are brought into the fold and begin their training with their master. A master only has one apprentice.

Training. All prospects are introduced to their master's coin and their wills tested. At first, the prospect is to watch the coin, short periods at first, but as they train physically and mentally they are given more time with watching the coin. Allowing it to test the bounds of their mind. In time after they have proven themselves in their training, they are allowed to hold the coin for short periods of time. After more intense training they are given more time with the coin, this is where their voice is discovered. The personal demon that will grow with them as they increase in strength and efficiency. This Training has no end, not so long as their master lives.

Succession. Masters train their successors and when the corruption of the coin becomes too much or if they give in to the full corruption of their voice then it is the responsibility of the prospect to slay their master and claim their coin. Succession is not always as clean-cut as the process of succession allows. Sometimes a master does not find a prospect, sometimes a master will kill their prospect during the succession rite, sometimes coins will fall into the wrong hands. In these times it falls to other masters to pick up the coin in contention. Adding to their burden of corruption. In this time the master of the coin must find and train a prospect worthy of the coin and allow them to take the coin without the rite. In some cases, this might mean giving their coin to their own prospect and they must find a new prospect and start the succession process anew.

Coins. The black coins are made from pitch black metal which is unimaginably cold. This metal is known to have incredible properties but it also corrupts the people who use it. For this reason, it is not given to anyone outside of the order because it is incredibly dangerous. The order maintains and controls much of the circulation of the coins, there are 666 coins however only 66 coins are in circulation. If the order wished to bring in new members it could however many members fear that in doing so control over the coins could be unwieldy.

Powers. Powers that manifest within the members of the black coin are unique to each user. Though all report the loss of being able to attune to magical items.

Order. Each member of the order are given free agency so long as they uphold the purging of demonic corruption at all costs. It is their duty to wipe out corruption where ever it may stem, outside of the laws of the land, self convictions, or otherwise. To allow corruption to exist outside of the order and the self tempts further corruption.
