Torchstone Annual Fishtoss & Footrace

The main event in a regional Summer Solstice festival, it's been a popular spectacle in Torchsone for decades. Participants, sometimes clad in whimsical, often nautical-themed costumes, gather at the docks, where, at the starting signal, they are tossed a large, freshly caught rock bass. Using nothing but their hands, they must then carry the fish as they race across the beach and up the hill, along the marked race course. When they arrive at the finish line, racers traditionally toss the fish to someone they fancy romantically, or, alternatively, to a friend upon whom they wish good fortune.
The winner of the event is lauded at a dance and feast of skewer-roasted fish that takes place as evening falls, where they are awarded a fishbone crown, and granted a silly, pseudo-royal title, such as Herring Highness, or Baroness Baitbucket.
Though the tradition continues, the revelry has been somewhat dampened in recent years by an increased presence of the Emerald Watch, as it's rumored that Her Serene Majesty suspects the peasants of mocking her court with the festival.

History

The first Fishtoss was organized as a celebration of a local folktale, in which Braedon Bimblefoot caught and wrestled a lady of the Fey who, to evade his attempts at courtship, had transformed herself into a salmon. (Rock bass is used now, because the festival takes place at midsummer, when the salmon in the harbor are relatively scarce.)

Execution

The starting signal of the race is a recitation of a verse from a song Braedon supposedly sang to attempt to lure the lady from her fishy form:
Fey lass o' flipper,
yer quippery taile
Tho' ye wriggle an' writhe,
I shall have ye tae hael!
